Beta 1: Certain icons handled badly when taskbar is moved from left to bottom.

Submitted by eikonoklastes2 on January 18, 2009 to Annoyance, Icons, Usability

- Start with the taskbar at the bottom.

- Place a couple of icons on the far right of the screen (as far as possible). I like having my Recycle Bin in the bottom right corner always.

- Move the taskbar to the left edge. All icons on the desktop move one slot to the right, EXCEPT the icons at the far right (obviously).

- Now bring the taskbar back to the bottom.

- The far right icons are moved one slot to the left!

Highly annoying.

I'm not sure how to write this. Basically, Windows needs to understand that there are special cases sometimes and it should not arbitrarily displace all desktop icons when the taskbar is moved around. Handle the desktop icons with more recollection and more intelligence basically.

This was always a problem in Windows.

Although having too many files on my desktop led to disabling desktop icons in xp.
Haven't reached that stage yet in 7, but with large icons, it should be easy.

There should be some kind of "docking" of the icons to the edges of the desktop. They should stick to the side they are near to.
