Disable Folder Thumbnails "Live Folders"

Submitted by Sem on January 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The thumbnails for folders or live folders is a nice idea but unfortunately it doesn't come off very well and looks terrible IMO

having just plain folders all the same looks better

at present you can only turn off thumbnails for both files and folders not one or the other

give us the option to disable thumbnails for folders only while still maintaining them for files or if you prefer turn them off for files but keeping them folders
either way make the option to turn them on or off independent from each other

hmmm i dont understand
why so many negative votes my suggestion is win win for everyone involved
if you like live folders keep it on if you dont disable it i personally cant see any negatives
if you voted againt this please post why
or do we have a problem of trolling on this site?

I just don't get it. You just mean you find the generic "folder with subfolders" icon ugly? Or the ones with the previews of the contents? Anyways, it's all about eye-candy. If you want to see the folders by their icons, it's only useful to have them show their contents right away. If you mostly use their names, use the list, or details view. The option is there, just not in the way you expect it to be.

hmm i still cant see what the problem is here
whats wrong with having separate settings for files/folder thumbnails it wont cause any harm?

i guess it is purely just an eye candy thing but then again isnt that the main purpose of this site?

also with folder thumbnails on you cant use the vast majority of custom icon packs out there

I have to agree here, even though my initial reaction was to demote.

I cannot recall a single instance when I found the folder previews useful. In fact, they're just plain messy for the most part. You're right - the same folder icons looks far cleaner.

Far more useful would be the ability to highlight/color the folders as per user preference.
