Ability to open Jump List and select an item with one single click

Submitted by tino on January 6, 2009 to Usability

You can open a Jump List not only by right-clicking, but also with a left click and drag up (as shown in the screenshot). Releasing the mouse over a Jump List item should select it. This would allow to close a window with just one single click: press - drag up - release on "Close window".

Changed title from [Ability to open and select Jump List items with one single click] to [Ability to open Jump List and select an item with one single click].

Clicking and dragging up currently is more useful for touch and tablet users.
I don't think this is a good idea as the cursor is still "attached" to the jumplist. (for example drag up and down, the cursor is always attached unless you release the mouse button)

@hoopla_punta: But that's how the Start Menu works at this point.

There could be a small delay before activating an item in the list with fingers so that you would not accidentally start something by dragging up.

Yes, please.
I'm all for reducing clicks.

+1 Makes even more sense when you click and drag up.

And accidental click is not really a problem, as the cursor is locked at the bottom of the jumplist, below the "close" command, while tha dragging lasts. When the jumplist is in place and dragging stops, only then dows the cursor move upward, and it is not at all difficult to select a item then. +1

+1!
Note -- it's already implemented in build 7000, but you need to drag your mouse to the jump list's top, then down. Fix it!

+1 for what litemininyuszika said.
Also the idea of a semi-transparent preview before dragging up (Office-style) would be great.
