Desktop peek isn't consistent in displaying gadgets.
(I'm on build 7000)
Sometimes, you see the desktop gadgets when you peek on the desktop.
But try this:
Have more than one window open.
Click on the Show Desktop button.
Maximize only one window.
Peek at the desktop, now you probably won't see the gadgets.
Or maybe you will? The thing is, its not consistent!
In fact, there shouldn't be any scenario where you don't see the gadgets while peeking. Peeking at the desktop is pretty useless without being able to see gadgets.
Lock/fix the desktop gadgets on the desktop layer, as suggested here:

Try keeping some windows minimized and some(at least one) maximized, then keep your mouse over the show desktop button(but don't click). See if the gadgets are visible.
I can't repdroduce this, too. Can someone else with build 7000?
There is a more important issue with the Show Desktop/Desktop Peek functionality: how can you reach an icon that sits behind a Gadget? In build 6956 there is no way to do so!
I am on 7000 too.
Well, if it helps, I'm running Firefox, Chrome(both maximized) and Sticky Notes.
The gadgets I have are the Clock, Calendar and Weather, set on the right with Large sized icons.
If they show up in peek, then I can reproduce them NOT showing up by doing this:
Click the Show Desktop button to minimize all windows.
Maximize just Firefox by click on the icon in the taskbar.
Now when I peek, the gadgets are not there.
To get them back, if I click on the desktop after minimizing, they appear again.
So it has something to do with the Show Desktop button not remembering states?
Maybe, but also with the Gadgets.
@tino
Move the Gadget?
Use the keyboard? (make the gadget slightly transparent so you know exactly which icon is sitting under it).
@xombie: If I don't see where the icon MAY be which Gadget should I move? Programs do put icons onto the Desktop and maybe behind a Gadget.
And even the shortcut WIN+D does not show the Desktop without Gadgets. It's not acceptable as it is now but there still is time to fix this.
@tino:
Well, which is why you should always keep your gadgets to the right side of the screen :p
You only have a limited desktop space anyway, so think of the space under the gadgets as off limits.
Unless you want them to allow us to put icons OVER the gadgets...which defeats the purpose of the gadgets themselves.
Changed title from [Desktop peek isn't consistent displaying gadgets.] to [Desktop peek isn't consistent in displaying gadgets.].
Changed problem description.
@xombie: The simplest solution would be:
- WIN+D only shows the Desktop (without Gadgets, like it does in Vista)
- WIN+G brings the Gadgets to the front (as it does now)
- Show/peek Desktop shows Desktop + Gadgets
@tino:
I just tried them. Here's what I'm getting:
WIN+D: Desktop with gadgets (why would it be without gadgets?)
WIN+G: Gadgets to the front, as you say.
Show desktop shows desktop + gadgets
Peek desktop shows desktop but gadgets...not always (which is the problem I'm talking about)
Because as I said, there is no way to see all Desktop icons but multiple ways to go to the Gadgets ;)
All I wanted was to see the gadgets by just moving my mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen :'( that actually gives having gadgets/widgets a purpose, you know :p I've never used any gadgets of any sort before this, because I rarely see my desktop after I've booted and opened up my browser windows.
I see that's why I have promoted your suggestion so please don't bite me! :D
Hmm, well it's fixed in 7022 already :p
