Windows Image & Fax Viewer doesn't animate animated gifs

Submitted by DARKGuy on December 21, 2008 to Bug, Usability

If you double-click a .gif on a folder, it'll open IE, but if you cycle to it using the image viewer, it won't animate.

Animate GIFs? also, make it faster, not like XP which did but at 1/2 of the real speed.

True. And its called Windows Photo Viewer now. Shouldn't it be Image instead to be more generic? Dunno.

This is for problems with Windows Seven. If this is in 7, then it should be in here. Otherwise problems and ideas for Vista go in the Aero one and quirks in 7 end up here. iBois embrass their leader in the aqua one.

In Windows Live Photo Gallery you at least can cycle through the single frames but still that's not good.

Yeah, I can't believe they took this function out in Vista. It should also be animated in the preview pane, like in XP.

Yeah, this really pissed me off.
I don't want it to load IE just to see a gif image.
Can't zoom in when using IE either.

Windows Photo viewer is blocking to .Gif content for so strange reason. After a while of checking external programing it seems that any other program can display the .gif files except Windows Photo viewer.

I think it is ridiculous.... I changed from XP to windows 7, i never thought it could have a problem so stupid...

Just install xnview and set gifs to open in it.

I just think it's hilarious XD
I'm no software engineer or something, but I wrote myself a pic viewer that just does what I want, it also displays ani-gifs. beside that it's way faster than the win7 image viewer and I can also do other (for me) useful stuff ... so I really wonder why MS can't do it ...
I also wonder if anything here is processed in any way by MS people :o

W7 has a bug or something with the colour calibration. If you delete the calibration profile (google it), photo viewer becomes super fast.
