Submitted by Zerlot on December 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Jumplist context menu not consistent enough. Every context menu is different making it difficult for user to find what they want to do. Just look at screenshots.

a consistent context menu in jumplist. Can we please have some kind of standard context menu where everything is in the same place or order.

I feel that these three items should always be at the bottom of the context menu in their own group:
Pin/Unpin Item
Remove from this list
Properties

Good post.

I think the menu is context aware. I noticed that in the pictures, you're right clicking on a different type of file. The first is a CD, the second a website, the third I can't really tell, and the last I;m guessing is a graphic. However, you're right; those options should be consistent.

I think the Libraries vs Paint is okay since there are different extensions associated for those types of files, but it is just sad that the WMP and IE8 ones have the same items but with a different order.

Changed title from [Jumplist context menu not consistent enough. Each context menu is different] to [Jumplist context menu not consistent enough. Each context menu is different (build 7000)].

This same problem existed in a smaller way even in XP. Look at the right-click context menu of most taskbar items, and you'll see "close" at the very bottom. Now try it with the "Command Prompt" task bar button... it adds some custom items, so close is no longer at the bottom.

I agree, there should definitely be a defined order, a set of "standard" items that are always present (grayed if not used by that application) and a standard place in the middle (not the bottom!) where custom defined application-specific items can be added.
