Allow video clip files to be uploaded as well as picture files

Submitted by formula_86 on March 26, 2010 to Usability, Website suggestions

Sometimes if someone is experiencing a UX quirk, a screenshot is not enough and a video clip is required to show the problem. Yes, the user could upload the video to YouTube and place a link here, but wouldn't it be better to be able to upload video clips to this site too?

Even if you impose say a 10mb limit on uploaded clips, allow the following formats to be uploaded: wmv, avi, mpg, mov, flv, mp4, f4v, m4v, 3gp, mkv, mod, qt, asf and mpeg. The quality wouldn't matter a great deal, since we only want to see the UX problem and not see fancy high definition.

I think handling video on a simple site like this is unnecessary.

Get Camtasia Studio and export to GIF :p

@nyp: This site doesn't appear to support animated GIFs; I tried posting a test submission with an animated gif, but after I had posted my submission, the file was converted to a static gif.

You're right, the site doesn't resize the image BUT if you open up the original image (not using the /x/99999/ trick), it does work.

Long: How about embedding youtube videos?

formula_86 wrote on March 28, 2010, 5:41pm

But wouldn't being able to embed things from other websites into this website create security holes?
