A quick and simple way to change the Start Menu size

Submitted by blueduck12 on January 26, 2010 to Usability

i think its a bit ridiculous that i have to go to the settings just to resize the start menu,
where as with a window i can just grab a side or corner

and many new users haven't realized that you can change change the size
.

Changed title from [A quicker way to change the Start Menu size] to [A quick and simple way to change the Start Menu size].

Yeah, would also be nice if you could just resize it the way you like. Drag the program's area or resize the shortlink area. +1!

just make sure to add a "lock" option

+ 1 good idea.

+1 - and horizontal too.
n49o7 >> Maybe use the same lock option as the taskbar - if one is locked, you can't move the other.

I agree with this, the start menu size is limited since you can only extend it by adding / removing items.
+1

But for the love of god this shouldnt be implemented the way it is in KDE4. KDE4 is broken beyond repair. It needs to be implemented in a way that would not effect the user experience.

It has no fixable size, and sometimes it even fills the screen without even adjusting it.

Its that the whole KDE4 seems coherently broken.

Like i said before
If it shows a scrollbar it needs to be sizeable!

It add complexity to the code, and another "loose" area on your desktop. At least I very rarely changes the start menu size, and going into a settings panel is done only after a windows reinstall.

But yet you want a resized part back in explorer.
