Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Navigational Tree Heirarchy doesn't side scroll to allow visibility of text

Submitted by veer01_42 on January 11, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When using the navigation pane to the left of the explorer window i noticed that when i got into really deep tree hierarchies, i wasn't able to scroll to the side to see the given folder. Not only that, but the auto centre that was introduced in Vista was removed... WTF?

Compounding this is the fact that in Vista, when you hit the "Folder" button in the navigation pane, the folder hierarchy would automatically take you to the location of the folder you were presently in, in the heirarchy. In Windows 7, if i ever want to use the folders, i need to manually navigate to the folder i am presently at to manipulate files as i see fit.

Seems that explorer will get dumber and dumber over time. Yikes! Are Microsoft aiming to make explorer as dumbstruck as Finder. eugh....

+1 from me!

i think that there is auto-scrolling...is it not working?

veer01_42 wrote on January 12, 2010, 10:50pm

I understand the need for simplicity, and the new navi pane is a lot better than the old one in terms of where i can go be it network locations, libraries and drives. Its just they seem to be overlooking minor things, (cough.. scrollbar) and behaviours (cough... auto center) that buttons up the whole experience. I hope they fix this in the service pack and don't force us to buy Windows 8 to get fixes to these stupid problems.

I remembered Vista does not have this problem.
Microsoft screwed things up!

no they didnt

veer01_42 wrote on January 19, 2010, 12:14am

Well Chris, either you explain why you think they didn't screw it up, or can you remove that useless comment of yours.

.Chris wrote on January 19, 2010, 7:51am

I will not remove a comment because you and your buddy disagree. Remember, people will say thiongs you don't like

veer01_42 wrote on January 19, 2010, 7:59am

Chris, are u a stupid jackasss or can you just not read?

"because you and your buddy disagree"

I didn't disagree with anyone, what said was if ur gonna say something, explain you opinion and don't be a troll.

Don't just say "no they didn't"

I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, but if ur going to do that, say why!!
This is a forum of sorts, and in forums you encourage discussions and a constructive ones at that, not just random 3 word comments with no explanations or basis.

Now explain why u think they didn't screw up the navi bar or remove ur damn comment!!

.Chris wrote on January 19, 2010, 8:04am

I'm 5 foot 11 inches. Far from a troll. Second I don't need to explain anything. Actually, I could if you show some respect, and that means not saying peoples comments are useless. Calling people jack asses and being very disrespectfull.

veer01_42 wrote on January 19, 2010, 8:17am

Well, i never called u a jackass, i gave u an option, either u couldn't read or u were a jackass, because those were the only two reasons that i could think of that could explain this pointless retort:

"I will not remove a comment because you and your buddy disagree. Remember, people will say thiongs you don't like"

As such i would have to think that you inherently consider yourself a jackass as you seemed to only notice that part of my comment.

I asked u to remove you comment because you didn't give any sort of explanation for ur opinion. I don't see how my disagreement with anyone else had anything to do with you thinking Microsoft screwed up the navi bar. I am not even seeing a disagreement with anyone in this thread atm other than you.

Ur comment is useless, it adds nothing to the discussion and it serves no purpose. I'm still waiting to hear why you think Msoft didn't screw up the navi bar. If you can do that at least, ill retract my choice about u about u potentially being a jackass.

Patternjake and i have had huge disputes before and totally disagreed, but every time we did, he would always explain why he thought what he did and i have nothing but respect for him as such.

You, you're making me lose faith in man and his ability to properly read and comprehend the English language.

takes deep breath....

.Chris wrote on January 21, 2010, 10:37pm

and that comment is not useless?

Indrek wrote on January 21, 2010, 10:42pm

veer01_42 does have a point, Chris, it'd be nice if you elaborated on your comment, because the removal of both the scrollbar and the auto-centre feature seem like a pretty major screwup. It's cool if you think it isn't, we'd just like to know why you think so.

On the other hand, it's hard to take a person seriously when they comment on someone's command of English while using abbreviations like "u" and "ur".

.Chris wrote on January 21, 2010, 10:49pm

Exactly, but he should show some respect and act like an adult
