Any specific games with which this happens? So we can try and reproduce the bug.

Command&Conquer Red Alert 3 is one of them. It's a more recent game too. I'd have to install a bunch of my old games to see which of them, but it's a problem I remember having on multiple occasions a long time ago and playing Red Alert 3 reminded me to post it up here.

I've had this happen to me, kind of annoying.

Need for Speed Shift is another game that causes this.

This has been frustrating me for years... ever since Windows 2000, IIRC.
I did some testing for y'all... in each game, I merely loaded it to the main menu and quit, re-enabling the pointer shadow where needed.
Causes:
- Prototype
- Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth 2
- Red Alert 3
Doesn't cause:
- Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
- TrackMania United Forever
- Sims 3 (both fullscreen & windowed mode)
- Dark Reign 2
- Company of Heroes
- Freespace 2

This issue happens with League of Legends as well.
Assigned to categories: "Bug"
Changed problem description.
I managed to "fix" the problem; I dual-boot Win7 / WinXP, and now I only install and play games under XP. No mouse shadow issue under Win7 anymore, and I get a massive performance boost as well. :D

Been like this since the dawn of time. This is not a MS fault, this is by design of other apps. (Especially D3D ones).
