Replace the Color 1 and Color 2 with Stroke and Fill (external patch)

Submitted by patternjake on September 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

In the new Windows 7 Paint, very oddly the colors have been kept as Color 1 and Color 2. This is very annoying. Therefore I have created a very simple and easy patch which replaces these texts with Stroke and Fill.

Fix is avaliable for download here : http://elementsoftware.co.uk/dev/jakejackson/mods/windows7paintpatch/

To install this fix, you must first take ownership of C:\Windows\System32\En-Us\MSPAINT.EXE.MUI. Once you have taken ownership of this file, rename it to mspaint.exe.mui.backup, so we can restore the origanal if anything goes wrong. Next copy the one contained in this zip file into the same folder that the old mui resides in.

Next, open Paint, and you will instantly see the new changes made!

SIDE NOTE: Microsoft does not provide this support for this fix, so dont go contacting them if anything goes wrong with Paint in the long run (VERY RARE that it should) Additionaly this only works (and tested only) with the Windows 7 RTM (Build 7600) edition of Paint.

Thanks to WizardCM, a 64 bit patch is avaliable.

The file also has a signed digital certificate to avoid security issues.
