User's mapped drives disappear when elevating to administrator privelege level

Submitted by dsmtoday on August 17, 2009 to Bug

This happens to me on a Domain with shares that require a Domain login. Could also possibly happen in Workgroup or Homegroup, but I haven't checked.

Under WinXP, I ran as a user in the local Administrator group. I had several mapped drives and would install programs from these mapped drives with no issues.

Under Win7, there is a problem with elevating the privilege to the local Administrator level. When launching an installer from the mapped drive, I click thru the UAC prompt, then the installer complains about missing files.

You can tell the user drive mappings do not exist for the Administrator by running an explorer session as the Administrator and then browsing My Computer. You'll get big red Xs on top of your drive mappings.

Somehow, a user's drive mappings need to make it thru Administrator privilege elevation.
