Removing IE Doesn't allow you to switch to Microsoft Update

Submitted by pyrates on August 2, 2009 to Bug

When I remove IE and reboot it works just fine. But when I go to Windows Update and click on the link for "Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.", nothing happens. I do got firefox installed so it should at least open up my default browser and allow me to change that.

The work around:

1. Add IE back
2. Click that link
3. Install the Microsoft Update signed active-x control
4. Uninstall IE again

I also noticed that when I reinstall IE, it doesn't pin the icon to the task bar like it does on a fresh install.

Open up my default browser and allow me to download a signed application that works in any browser that will allow me to use Microsoft Update.
