Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

WMP - more mouse controls (pause/play/skip)

Submitted by cornel001 on June 27, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Some people want/need to play around with a certain video/audio file, like pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding.... the only way to do this with the mouse :
- position over the play/pause button and click it
- position ove the slider and drag it back or fwd.
This can be painful/annoying if done a lot. Especially since for a large file the slider is not very precise.

A WMP(12) plugin or whatever else, that gives the option to :
- play/pause by clicking over the image/video itself (in case of the audio file this is a static image). Actually clicking (not double clicking) does nothin'
- use mousewheel to skip a user setable number of seconds back and forward. actually it does nothin'

There is already demand for using mousewheel for volume; no problem, it would give user the option to choose for volume or frame skipping. Eventually one would be used by pressing and rotating mosewheel at the same time (wheel button + mwheelup or down) and the other normally.

This way we can be much faster, precise, dont have to pay much attention where and how we move the cursor (but pay to the content itself) , since the video/image surface can be much larger and the skip would not need pointing.
