Drag and Drop Multiple Items to Taskbar To Open

Submitted by josephers on June 11, 2009 to Usability

When I select a bunch of files of the same extension, like .wav, and drag and drop to an icon on the taskbar like Adobe Audition and hold Shift, it only opens one of the files with Adobe Audition, not all of the files I've dragged.

I want to load 20 .wav files onto Adobe Audition for a quick workflow, but this is making me go through each item one by one.

Always open every item that's been selected when given the "Open with..." command through the taskbar.

Windows can't support this at the system level as it doesn't know which apps support opening multiple files at a time. It's up to the app to support this. If the app supports this (Audition does), you can open multiple files from its File -> Open dialog. Also some apps open in multiple instances and only support 1 document per instance. Allowing this at the system level for such apps may slow down the system if you try to open 5 files at a time.
