WMP keyboard volume control

Submitted by Jive Turkey on May 19, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

One of the great things about WMP was always that dedicated keyboard media keys worked 100%. Now it seems it's as flaky as all the other media players :(
The issue in question is that volume up/down will only work if the volume slider is selected (thus rendering the keys near useless as if you select it with your mouse, you might as well adjust it with your mouse). To make it worse, it doesn't even seem to be selected by default...the seek bar is instead :(

I don't know how to fix WMP, but a good workaround would be to set the keyboard volume control to adjust master volume at all times. Starting the HID service does this. See biggardr's post below for details.
