OK thanks but, How can we do it?

i hate this so much!!! It is the main reason why I am still @ XP. For XP there is a program named FolderSize which does the job really great!!! Yes sweeping takes some time depending on what is on the hdd. But once completed it remembers the size and reacts perfectly on changes :)

I can't work without it any more

I understand very well your situation currysini. Many years ago I found one of the first Folder Size on a magazine CD and it said there that once you get used to seeing the Folder Size Column on your Explorer, you would never be able to see it missing, and that's the very truth.
I've read on another forum that the Folder Size 2.5 x64 works perfectly on any Windows plataform, but in the case of Windows 7, Microsof chose to deny any change on the shell menus.
As this is called Taskforce, couldn't we all get together and try to convince the big shots as Microsoft to reconsider this situation???

Plus the sizes shown are in KB! Who wants to see large several gigabyte sized files in KBs? These should be proportional. Below 1 MB in KB. 1 GB below should be shown in MB.

So what do I do here?
I want to be able to see the folder's sizes as shown in the image above, what do I have to do?
(Windows 7 64bit)

I should probably mention that I've got the Size column but with no information given.

Yes thats the way it is ... There is an program called FolderSize but it does NOT support Windows Vista or 7 in any version. MS changed something at the column, so no, you wont get it to work...

Alright, so if it doesn't work with W7 or vista, what OS is he running in the screenshot? If it's XP, that's one good looking theme...

currysini wrote on May 14, 2011, 12:36pm

take a screenshot from XP of the sizes, paste it in a screenshot from Windows 7 ... and done is the image showing the thing missing, no magic ;)

devaj wrote on May 14, 2011, 12:42pm

in the screenshot, there is one folder highlighted, in XP, folders are not highlighted in the same style.
Anyway, it seems like a lot of trouble to convince us that this works on W7 if it actually doesn't.
That to the side, is there a way to get sizes of folders into Explorer itself?
Because I've been looking around the net, and all I've found are various ways of viewing my files (software that act as Explorer and displays folder size), but seeing the screenshot above, I thought it was made possible in W7.
So is there a way to get folder sizes displayed in Explorer?

currysini wrote on May 14, 2011, 12:48pm

hm good point, but he could just make a screenshot in win7 one file highlighted and pasting that one into a screenshot of folders; jehar some work ... however, I dont know a way to get it to run or any other software whitch does excatly that ...

BUT I really DO WANT it ... . I also searched the web serveral times, no success. If you find the solution, please tell me ^^

It's just a mockup :) I have used the sizes of FILES...copy&paste from one screenshot the another one and there you have it ;)

devaj wrote on May 14, 2011, 1:09pm

god dammit.
well if I find something I'll post it here, until then, I'll just recede to my corner and cry.

I've found 4 things so far;

http://foldersize.sourceforge.net/
Although it says clearly on the website that vista and W7 isn't supported, there have been reports of people having it working on their vista/w7 machines. Try your luck.

http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder-Size/Folder-Size.html
As I mentioned before, this is one of the software that tries to imitate Explorer.

http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/index.html
This software tries to restore as many features that w7 has lost having moved from XP. I don't know if it helps display folder size, I haven't tried it myself. If anyone tries this, do give us feedback.

That is all.
