Explorer renaming user folders

Submitted by Curtis on March 29, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If I have a folder in my user folder on a Vista computer called "Documents" (as we all do), If I go on Win7 and look at that folder over the network, Win7 decides to make the display name "My Documents", it does this for "Music", "Videos" and "Pictures" as well.

This is a problem because I know that "Videos" starts with a "V", so it will be somewhere near the bottom of the list, then I realise explorer has renamed it and it takes me longer to find what I'm after.

In the pic, on the left is how it is on my Vista comp (the way it should be), on the right is the way Win7 thinks it should be.

Pretty simple really, if a folder is called "Documents" thats what it should show up as in explorer, doing anything else just doesn't make sense.

I understand there is a need to differentiate between the "Documents" user folder and the "Documents" library, but seriously, if I want to call a folder "Documents", let me, don't think you're helping me by renaming my folders, that just causes even more confusion.
