Windows Media Player - album art cannot update

Submitted by JJohnson on March 17, 2009 to Annoyance

When I drag album art onto an mp3, it will not update, claiming the file is being used by another program. This was NEVER a problem in Vista. I could edit the album art of an active file at will.

Restore the functionality from Vista to update album art even while playing a file.

Well, microsoft fucked up media player this time around. The ugly blueish whiteish UI, no glass controls in libary mode (photo viewer does!)

- 1 I know why this is and I will explain!

WMP 12 stores the picture not only in the folder of the album as hidden pictures but saves them in the ID3 tags of the MP3 files them self. I for myself used to use another program to do that because my MP3 Player only shows the pictures when they are stored in the tags of the MP3 file.

The disadvantage of that is, that these pictures cannot saved in a MP3 file that is already in use because it is played right now. In Vista WMP 11 just stored the album art in the folders but not in the MP3 tags. Good to see they changed that.Without your suggestion I would't have known that and I used mp3tag for that just a week ago. That was not necessary. :-)
