Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

*FIXED in BUILD 6956* Add the ability to safely remove devices from within the "Devices and Printers" window

Submitted by Danielsmi on November 6, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

The new devices and printers windows is a nice place to have all your devices in one spot but it'd be nice if we could safely remove hardware from within that window without having to use the hidden by default "safely remove hardware" icon in the system tray.

Good idea. While they did take the Aero Taskforce suggestion (apparently) and simplified the "Safely Remove Hardware" menu, I still don't like that menu. Using this new "devices and printers" area would be a great solution.

This has been fixed in build 6956, you can safely remove by right clicking on the removable disk or from the menu bar above.
