Default Windows Media Player skin is from WMP8

Submitted by HeresyProgram on November 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy

The default Windows Media Player skin for Skin Mode looks like it's from WMP8. Skin Mode itself seems like a relic.

Change the default to "Revert" or dump Skin Mode altogether. Now Playing mode seems to accomplish the same task, making the player smaller and showing a visualization/album art.

Giant Title Bar Inconsistency

Submitted by HeresyProgram on November 11, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy

Certain native Windows applications have a giant title bar. There appears to be no reason for the space. It's been a problem since Vista. The colors are also inconsistent. The print dialogue has a black subtitle while DVD maker has a light blue one. (more...)

Other apps and explorer windows, such as the control panel, add a breadcrumb bar or a search box in that space. If the application doesn't need either, then lower the size of the title bar and unify the appearance of the apps.

Why doesn't this window have the standard "Search *****" that every other window does? Yes, you can search the control panel at the top, but we didn't get here through the control panel (well, most of us didn't. Certainly the (more...)

Windows 7 converts BMP/TIFF/PNG to JPG for wallpaper

Submitted by HeresyProgram on November 11, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

Windows 7/Vista reduces PNG/BMP/TIFF to an artifacted JPG if you attempt to load one as wallpaper.

The desktop should take a given image, display it and not touch it. PNG is not a niche file format, so display it natively, transparencies and all. Most users that would notice this would likely understand memory usage issues. So give us the option.
