Program Files (x86) is not translated in French
I don't speak french but it certainly looks like a typical silly little localization bug.
Run window should have "Run as administrator" checkbox
It'd have a real purpose if it had the "run as administrator", which is why they should add that instead of remove the whole thing.
Also, it has a little history dropdown that the start menu doesn't have.
Option to add exceptions to UAC
I have the RivaTuner thing. There is an ELABORATE workaround which will fix this, but the requirements for it are so stupidly hard that it makes an exception seem much more favorable so +1.
Recycle bin and format dialog should educate users about secure deletion
It would be very easy to support a slower, secure delete. It could be built right into Windows and everyone who does, say, financing on a PC would need it from time to time.
Option to show hibernate progress meter, like in XP
I think it should be an option. I assume the black screen saves battery life on laptops, especially important during 'emergency' hibernations. But I think most people want to see the progress... so yeah, an option. It's harder for an option to upset anyone.
LAN file sharing login should be more permanent when "remember my credentials" is checked.
patternjake, what are you talking about? The "flaw" you mention also applies to the existing LAN logins, logins in general, and to Windows as a whole. If windows is compromised even without this proposal enacted, of course a keylogger can steal your password and you are screwed. If anything, the more you type it in, the easier it is for a keylogger to steal since this seems to be the preferred malicious tool.
A secure session certificate would not store your password but only allow those two computers to connect locally once they authenticate each other. It is not less secure than the current implementation. This would in no way enable any new way for one computer to take over another. BOTH computers would need to be compromised to defeat the certificate system, in which case 'security' at this point is out the window.
The bottom line is once your PC is fully compromised you are in SERIOUS trouble as is and you must fix it ASAP. This proposal is independent of this basic tenant.
Also keep in mind we are talking about LAN here (not login over the internet), so for most people it is already limited to other computers in the house.
If there is a true security hole added by this, please spell out a more specific attack scenario that does NOT already defeat Windows as it is now. Otherwise, please don't -1!

Battery Management: Standardize ability to disable battery charging under certain criteria
It sounds like most of you guys are saying its better to not even have this OPTION. But not all end users are retarded. Currently there is absolutely no way to do what I want to do without physically removing the battery. The fact is battery longevity could be extended for those who DO understand it. I don't want my computing experience to be worse because it doesn't conform to the lowest common denominator.
Battery Management: Standardize ability to disable battery charging under certain criteria
While the implementation of this might be difficult and low level, its a feature for the end user. I feel that I have to keep my battery outside my laptop. After 2 years, this policy has allowed my battery to maintain its 4 hours of max charge. However I can only use the battery for special occasions because of this. I want it to at least work as a UPS and it would be a lot more convenient if i could just disable charging and leave it in. And I could always just re-enable charging when I'm going off the grid.

"Folder In Use" because of thumbnails
I know this isn't easy to solve. The fact that it's not is indicative of a fundamental oversight in my opinion. For any type of 'cache' file, the access rights to the file should be so utterly unimportant that anything using them is prepared to have access rights torn from it at any time. Any interrupted write to the file should fail and throw an exception or return an error to the program.
But there is no such level of access currently. So maybe Microsoft should instead change where thumbnails are stored. Or maybe the delete operation can forward a message to the thumbnail generating task and say "let go of this file NOW".
Feature: Enable ISO Mounting as native in Windows 7 Explorer

I still use Daemon tools lite, never had the slightest issue with windows 7 with it.
