takes deep breath....

Make this site XHTML 1.0 Transitional

There is a guy named Steve Gibson, hes basically the guy who first discovered malware on the internet and coined that term.

If you run that same tool on his site on his site, (www.sgc.com i think it is), his site will fail, and fail horribly at that. The reason, is because every web browser renders web code differently, he had a to use a lot of different tricks to make sure his site is rendered properly on almost all browsers.

The end result is that these tricks don't stick to any one standard and to validation programs like the one ur using, they just look like "bad programming".

Just because a program scans a site and says it not secure or the code is not up to snuff, doesn't always make it true.

Its appreciated that you are showing the concern thou. Hopefully when web standards become truly unified and standardized, we wont have to worry about these things anymore.

Cheers !

Well, i never called u a jackass, i gave u an option, either u couldn't read or u were a jackass, because those were the only two reasons that i could think of that could explain this pointless retort:

"I will not remove a comment because you and your buddy disagree. Remember, people will say thiongs you don't like"

As such i would have to think that you inherently consider yourself a jackass as you seemed to only notice that part of my comment.

I asked u to remove you comment because you didn't give any sort of explanation for ur opinion. I don't see how my disagreement with anyone else had anything to do with you thinking Microsoft screwed up the navi bar. I am not even seeing a disagreement with anyone in this thread atm other than you.

Ur comment is useless, it adds nothing to the discussion and it serves no purpose. I'm still waiting to hear why you think Msoft didn't screw up the navi bar. If you can do that at least, ill retract my choice about u about u potentially being a jackass.

Patternjake and i have had huge disputes before and totally disagreed, but every time we did, he would always explain why he thought what he did and i have nothing but respect for him as such.

You, you're making me lose faith in man and his ability to properly read and comprehend the English language.

Chris, are u a stupid jackasss or can you just not read?

"because you and your buddy disagree"

I didn't disagree with anyone, what said was if ur gonna say something, explain you opinion and don't be a troll.

Don't just say "no they didn't"

I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, but if ur going to do that, say why!!
This is a forum of sorts, and in forums you encourage discussions and a constructive ones at that, not just random 3 word comments with no explanations or basis.

Now explain why u think they didn't screw up the navi bar or remove ur damn comment!!

Well Chris, either you explain why you think they didn't screw it up, or can you remove that useless comment of yours.

Windows Media Player 12, Functionality, UI and file handling!

Wrote on January 14, 2010, 8:40am

Remember, i exited all the apps i had running. Including some background processes and it still didn't run on my freshly reinstalled Windows 7. I even donned it in a virtual machine, still a nogo.

Now concerning my review, i reviewed what i had experience with, the screen shots that were posted on the site which should be the same as the actual player and if so, there should be no problem with me basing my opinion of what the UI looks like based on the screenshots.

Secondly i never commented about functionality because i never got to use it.

And thirdly, i would never recommend a program like this, that would need the user to know which apps were using SQL and then to close them , some of which would probably only be exitable by killing the process in the task manager; and thats hoping the person even knew what the task manager was.

For the average person thats not Latin, thats Martian!

Look, ur making a product, and im a potential user. I gave u all the info i could, it gave an error stating that i need to close all apps using SQL. Now take that info and work it into you program design. I told you in better terms your program looks like crap. Take that info and try a different UI that doesn't look like a rip off of every media player pre WMP 12, but way uglier.

Have you taken a look at the "Blu Twitter Client"? Its built on Microsoft's Windows Presentation Foundation and it is absolutely beautiful. If you can take my comment about the UI being crappy to heart, this may be a good place to start.

Check them out: -
http://www.thirteen23.com/experiences/desktop/blu/

They're even hiring so it may be ur opportunity to get some experience with a company that has experience with the platform.

I'm not trying to be an asshole although thats what i often come across as, not intentionally of course. I live on my computer but i also work with some of the least tech savvy people around and even when i'm with tech savvy ppl, i make them look normal. As such I have a pretty good idea of what will and will not move an app.

And what you have will not sell an app. It isnt even eyecatching so that in a list alongside other Media Players it wont even catch your eye.

Keep at it and if you want more feedback from me, let me know and id be happy to beta test for you and let you know what i think as it goes by.

I'm not just a complainer i also like to find solutions to problems or at least interim workarounds. You are offering up your player for my dissection, as such i'm going to review it and take it apart in fine detail.

To begin with, I installed it and it wouldn't even start. It said i had to close all apps that could potentially be using SQL ... how the hell am i supposed to know what these are?

So i closed everything... It still wouldn't start

So i already would tell everyone don't bother using this app.

Secondly from the screenshots on the site it looks totally uninspired. You even used the same bars visualisation from WMP.... thats a big nono.

Your player brings nothing new to the table. If anything its a mishmash of WMP 10 & 11. To add to this, the elegance in UI design with both those players is non existent in your app i'm sorry to say.

I am using a clean install of windows to test this app.

Please remove you comment.

Well from what ive been hearing, they are gonna do away with the WMP Moniker and the entire multimedia arm of microsoft will fall under the Zune brand, as it has in the Xbox.

Hypothetically if they want to put the focus on Zune they may actually be intentionally crippling the WMP experience to force ppl to switch to Zune as its comparatively better

Quick question.... how did remove WMP12? from the "Turn windows features on and off"

Idiot!!!!!!! It doesnt matter what the information is, be it system performance or ur favourite family pictures!!!!!!

And if i did care so much about system utilization, i wouldn't be using gadgets to begin with u unimaginative idiot!!!. I have 8 gigs of RAM a quad core processor !!!!! Did u look at the screen shot of my gadgets at all, i showed u guys my system resources in that screenshot so u'd understand where i was coming from!!!!

I usually encode videos where all 8 threads on my processor is maxed out and i still play call of duty 6 while thats going on.... performance isn't an issue and it isn't something i whine over!!! Its functionality u twit!!!

I need to keep an eye on my processor usage when i'm encoding videos!!! I need a network monitor because my ISP sucks ass and i like to see how much bandwidth i'm actually paying for!!! When im copying files over my home network, the network gadget give me a better idea of the actual speed than the windows copying file dialogue!!!!

I test programs as a hobby, and run virtual machines, usually 3 or 4 at a time so i need to look at system usage when i do my reviews!!! Yes watching these gadgets are part of my productivity... go figure!! I do have fun with my computer, but it doesn't require me to use gadgets to do that. When a game is in full screen i couldn't care less about the gadgets. But when i'm on my desktop working... i need to see them!

But again, it shouldn't matter what the gadget is showing u in terms of information, as long as u can get to it without having to clear anything to get to the info or hit some sort of shortcut to get to it!!

U mean all u could focus on was me being a performance freak????? I paid for the 8 gigs of ram... now USE IT!!!!!

Bring back the sidebar in Windows 7 as an option!

"Magnetic edges and Aero Peek are a more than adequate replacement"

Ok so explain to me how its adequate in this situation.... I have my web browser maximised and i want to see whats my network throughput but i don't want to move my mouse or hit a keyboard shortcut to see it.... OH WAIT.... I can't!!!! The sidebar functionality was the reason i started using gadgets!!!!

Why are u douches so one track minded. The Aero peak handles ever situation except for this, and this happens to be the only situation i care about.

Furthermore, if ur gonna demote sum1 post ud better give a better explanation that "IMO" u idiot. Do u thing those three letters helps anyone. If thats all ur gonna post don't rank my pot and don't comment on it either!!!!

U say ppl say insulting things on the forums, but when u comment pointless rubbish like this, what do u thing ppl r gonna do?!?!?!?!
