Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Update Live Search references to Bing

Submitted by DavidTaraso on June 5, 2009 to Legacy

While the whole renaming of Live Search to Bing is nice, it has now left a few inconsistencies in Windows 7. There are references to Live Search within the OS that now need to be updated to Bing. This is not only bad for the brand, but can be confusing (more...)

Update all references of Live Search to Bing.

Delayed Fast Forward Control Reaction in WMP

Submitted by DavidTaraso on May 18, 2009 to Bug

When you accidentally click on the wrong button or link in any application and such, the quickest remedy is to move your cursor away from the link or button before releasing the mouse button, this prevents the click from going through.

Quick Access Icons Aren't Vertically Centered

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 15, 2009 to Aesthetics

The Quick Access icons for the new Ribbon interface in Paint and WordPad aren't properly vertically aligned with the title bar icon and text.

It is only by a small amount, but considerably noticeable.

Adjust the Quick Access icons ~2 pixels higher.

If when running the Live TV Setup, your IR receiver/remote isn't detected, you are given the option to Try Again.

Once you plug it in and click the Try Again button, it continues on, the button disappears, but the text from the button (more...)

Can't Cancel Disc Image Burning Process

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 12, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The new Disc Image Burning feature in Windows 7 is great... but the operation can't be cancelled. The Cancel button is there, but it's grayed out. There's also the X, but it doesn't do anything while burning.

Edit: By (more...)

Allow the burn process to be cancelled with a confirmation dialogue.

WordPad is Missing a Shadow Above the Page

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 11, 2009 to Aesthetics

In WordPad, there's a drop shadow on each side of the page which go right to the edge of the top of the page, yet there's no shadow on the top side of the page. It looks cut off.

The side shadows either shouldn't go right to the very top edge (and should fade in a tiny bit) or the top of the page should have a shadow as well.

The default Start Menu "All Programs" requires a bit of organizing

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

This is a very annoying aspect but would be very easy to fix. The default Start Menu "All Programs" list needs to be better organized.

Here are some examples:

- Some of the utilities found under the "System (more...)

I've pretty well already explained it within the Problem decription. Come on though Windows Dev Team, this is a short and painless task. It is easily doable even though we're nearing RC :)

Photo Viewer's Buttons have been left in the Dark

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Legacy

Windows Media Player 12's control buttons have been slightly redesigned in Windows 7 and better match 7's UI. Photo Viewer unfortunately still uses the same old darker Vista styled buttons.

Update: This suggestion has nothing (more...)

Update Photo Viewer's buttons to match the improved style seen in WMP12.

Clicking the currently playing song in WMP should jump to it in the library

Submitted by DavidTaraso on March 31, 2009 to Usability

WMP nicely displays the song currently playing in the bottom left corner of the window. Unfortunately, there is no way to easily navigate to that song in the library.

Clicking the currently playing song in the bottom left corner should automatically take you to that song in the library.

Introduce a Delay Before Centering Taskbar Thumbnails

Submitted by DavidTaraso on March 31, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

This is way too difficult to explain, so I'll just explain how to reproduce the quirk instead.

1. Open several windows (5 or 6 should do) of a certain application (it's easiest to use Explorer to demonstrate). This will work with (more...)

It's simple, when closing thumbnails, introduce a short delay before the thumbnails recenter to the program's taskbar tile.

Independent Volume Control for Media Center

Submitted by DavidTaraso on March 29, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The volume control in Media Center controls the global system sound, instead of being independent.

This is a problem for those who don't use their computer solely for Media Center. I often work with Media Center tucked in the corner (more...)

A) Only link Media Center's volume to the global system volume when in full screen mode. (When maximizing Media Center, automatically adjust the system volume to match the volume set in Media Center)

It's Time: Unified Control Panel

Submitted by DavidTaraso on November 6, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

I think the largest issue in terms of usability with the Windows operating system to date is the lack of a central unified control panel. While the OS does have a fairly large control panel, there are still masses and masses of properties, options, settings, (more...)

Merge everything, all properties, options, tasks, EVERYTHING into the control panel.

Please see the mockups I have created here: http://www.jcxp.net/david/ControlPanelConcepts/

Get Rid of Unneeded Tabs

Related Suggestion: (more...)

Do not lock windows when credentials are required

Submitted by DavidTaraso on November 5, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

I believe it would be better if windows are not "locked down" when credentials are required to continue. To be clear, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT UAC. An example would be when credentials are required to view a web page (eg. Logging into a router/modem).

Allow windows to continue to be controlled when credentials are required.
