Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Minimised window border corners in Aero Peek are ugly

Submitted by Cuppa on August 13, 2009 to Aesthetics

When using Aero Peek, minimised and non-minimised windows are rightly differentiated in appearance*. However, the corners of minimised windows look a bit strange on a light background and downright ugly on a dark background. See the screenshot.

Make the window corners the same as those of non-minimised windows.

Aero Basic dark border colour changes at top of side edges

Submitted by Cuppa on August 11, 2009 to Aesthetics

The dark grey outer border colour on Aero Basic windows changes slightly just beneath the Close button (and at the same point on the left edge). See the screenshot.

(Even by my standards this is nitpicking - but I don't see why it (more...)

Use the same colour along the entire side edges.

Text glow in title bar is clipped on maximised IE8 window

Submitted by Cuppa on August 9, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

When an Internet Explorer 8 window is maximised, the glow behind the text in the title bar is clipped at the bottom (visible due to the extended glass). This is not an issue when the window is not maximised.

Screenshot is on a black background (more...)

Let the text glow extend beneath the dimensions of the title bar.

Ugly blue line remains in Aero Basic

Submitted by Cuppa on June 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy

Windows 7 mercifully removed the nasty blue line from the bottom and right borders of focused Aero windows. Unfortunately, it remains in Aero Basic.

From top to bottom, the screenshots are of Aero in Windows 7, Aero in Windows Vista and (more...)

Remove the blue line from Aero Basic windows.

'All Control Panel Items' list should be sorted top-to-bottom, not left-to-right

Submitted by Cuppa on January 17, 2009 to Usability

The sorting of Control Panel items in the classic view is hard to follow. By sorting the names left-to-right rather than top-to-bottom, finding an item requires more effort than necessary.

Since there is only room for a few entries on each (more...)

Sort the items top-to-bottom, not left-to-right, or at the very least provide this as an option.

Tooltips for Network, Action Center, Language Bar and Clock are not native

Submitted by Cuppa on January 6, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug

For some reason, the tooltips for the Network and Action Center tray icons, Language Bar items, and the clock are not quite native. They're fairly good imitations, but why do they need to be imitations at all?

Differences from (more...)

Use native tooltips, unless there is some technical benefit to continue faking them, in which case do a better job.

IE should use native menus

Submitted by Cuppa on December 31, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

IE8's menus don't all have normal styling. In particular, the submenu 'arrow' turns white when hovered (rather than staying black), and disabled items have a different text colour and selection colour when hovered (compared to normal (more...)

Use native menu styling.

Hover effect is different between taskbar items/notification area items/clock

Submitted by Cuppa on December 25, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The mouseover effect (the white glow that appears from the bottom) is inconsistent in the taskbar. For shortcuts on the taskbar and for the clock, there is no fade-in/out (the glow just appears and disappears in one state). For notification area items, (more...)

Consistently use fade-in/out for the glow hover effect in the taskbar.

User Account Control Settings page has room for improvement

Submitted by Cuppa on December 3, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

There are several things wrong here:

1. There are no scrollbars when the content overflows.
2. There is white space on either side of the grey bar containing the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons.
3. The information (more...)

Submitted by Cuppa on November 28, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Legacy

The WMP plugin for browsers has some theming issues:

1. Tooltips use the XP style.
2. Buttons (in the Options window, etc.) are not themed.

Title bar 'drag to restore' gesture doesn't work with all programs

Submitted by Cuppa on November 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

In Windows 7, a window can be maximised by dragging its title bar to the top of the screen. Similarly, a maximised window can be restored by dragging the title bar away from the top of the screen. However, the latter does not work with some applications (more...)

Submitted by Cuppa on November 9, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug

Sometimes the text glow on the alt-tab window isn't properly cleared when switching between windows. Specifically, switching from a window that has a long title (that doesn't fit in the available space) to a window with a short title results (more...)

Language Bar has multiple issues

Submitted by Cuppa on November 9, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Legacy, Usability

1. The menu style is non-standard.
2. The IME Pad for Japanese acts very strangely - buttons don't have have mouseover animations (even the Close button doesn't glow).
3. The glow over language bar items in the taskbar is non-standard.
