Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Stop the "Safely remove hardware" icon from jumping around.

Submitted by xombie on February 27, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

Try this if you have more than one removable device.

Plug them in. Now move the remove hardware icon to any position except the leftmost.

Click on it and remove one device. The icon will jump to the left to show a notification. (more...)

Don't make it change position just to show a notification.

Disabled magnifying glass in XPS viewer's search is ugly.

Submitted by xombie on November 1, 2009 to Aesthetics

Looks like it's been turned to b/w, awkwardly selected and pasted as a new graphic.

Website search needs a "Sort by" feature.

Submitted by xombie on October 26, 2009 to Website suggestions

Right now search results seem to be arranged quite randomly.

A sort by Date, Number of Comments, Rating, Fixed, etc would be very useful.

Search doesn't work for non-indexed locations in Libraries

Submitted by xombie on August 24, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you remove the "Users" folder from Indexing Options, and then open, say, your Documents Library and search for something, you will get nothing at all. It wont even bother searching the non indexed items.

However, if I go to (more...)

Let Windows Live programs update from Windows/Microsoft Update

Submitted by xombie on August 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

First of all, I'm posting this on the Windows website because it is primarily a Windows update suggestion.

Windows Live programs usually don't seem to update unless you run the installer again. (see here: (more...)

Allow WL Essentials to be updated via Windows/Microsoft update. If it can be done for Office, why not WL?

Jumplists of Games have incorrectly named item.

Submitted by xombie on June 18, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

Right click or click drag up on the application button of any running Windows game.

It has "Executable for <game name> Game" instead of just "<game name>" as the first item.

Allow individual applications to be ungrouped/uncombined on the taskbar.

Submitted by xombie on May 18, 2009 to Usability

Sometimes when you're working with several windows of the same application like explorer or messenger, you frequently need to switch between them. This is an area in which the new taskbar performs worse than before, as you have to click or hover (more...)

Add a Group/Ungroup option in the jumplist for individual applications (as in the picture)

Driver Software Installation windows is very crowded

Submitted by xombie on April 20, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons

Possible problem:
Icons too big
Text too small
Line spacing too low

Icons are a bit ugly too.

Increase line spacing
Increase text size
Decrease icon size

[site suggestion] Automatically subscribe to your own submission.

Since the poster of the suggestion is obviously going to be interested in hearing other opinions, they should automatically be subscribed to their new suggestions, just like a +1 is automatically given by them for their own suggestion.

Photo Viewer shortcuts and pointers.

Submitted by xombie on March 9, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The new photo viewer shortcuts for viewing images in their original size are very counter-usability, when compared to those from XP's Picture and Fax Viewer.

Ctrl+Alt+0 instead of Ctrl+A to view Actual Size
Ctrl+0 instead of (more...)

Bring back Ctrl+A and Ctrl+B.
It's not like those shortcuts are used for anything.

Submitted by xombie on January 17, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

Open Control Panel > Speech Recognition Options > Speech Recognition Tutorial.

You'll get a nice fullscreen tutorial, but the program windows and stuff in the screenshots are all from Vista!

I suppose they do have (more...)

Devices should appear on the top of the list in Autoplay. +Bad scrolling.

Submitted by xombie on January 17, 2009 to Annoyance

When you open the Autoplay window from Control Panel, you get a long list of the different media, followed by any devices you might have connected to your computer.

For most people the device list is going to be smaller than the media list, (more...)

iSCSI Initiator is repeated in Control Panel and Administrative Tools

Submitted by xombie on January 17, 2009 to Annoyance, Icons

The iSCSI initiator appears in the main Control Panel window, and in the Administrative tools sub window.

Remove it from the main Control Panel window.
Most people don't know what it's for and don't need it.

Advanced Sharing Settings window doesn't scroll unless you minimize and maximize a profile section.

Submitted by xombie on January 14, 2009 to Annoyance

Open the Network and Sharing Center, and on the left side there's a link called Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

You get the window shown in the screenshot, a section is usually maximized, but you can't scroll until you minimize (more...)

(7000) Taskbar disappears when some installers run

Submitted by xombie on January 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

This one is just an example, but I've noticed the same behaviour with some other installers.
When you change focus back to other windows, it reappears.
