Make Windows key shortcuts more discoverable

Submitted by jonathanmarston on March 17, 2009 to Usability

Windows key shortcuts are great, but they aren't very obvious

While holding the Windows key, display tooltips showing available options a la Office when pressing alt (see mock-up). The tooltips would show up after a delay so that you wouldn't see them when you just want to open the Start menu, and there should (more...)

Give alt-tab the enhancements from enhanced taskbar

Submitted by jonathanmarston on February 17, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

The new taskbar enhancements are great, but alt-tab should get updated to match for consistency and improved usability

Submitted by jonathanmarston on November 4, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The advanced network settings dialog box (where you can change adapter and binding priorities and provider order) has been buried since Windows Vista, and is in horrible need of updating.

The only way to access it (that I know of) in 6801 (more...)

At minimum a button should be added to the toolbar under network connections, and the UI should be updated to use the Aero visual style

Allow dragging files on to pinned programs

Submitted by jonathanmarston on November 4, 2008 to Usability

If you drag and drop a file from Explorer on to a pinned icon on the taskbar in 6801 it is ignored if the application is not running, and the application is switched to if it is. This is not the expected behavior, and appears to simply follow the behavior (more...)

When a file is droppped on to a pinned item in the task bar, the file should be opened in that application. For instance, if I drag a .log file onto a pinned Notepad icon, the log file should be opened in Notepad (if there are already Notepad processes (more...)
