Canceling from "User Account Control settings" always leads to Solution Center

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 10, 2008 to Annoyance

Control Panel > User Accounts > "Turn User Account Control On or Off" > [Cancel] leads to Windows Solution Center.

Cancel should act more like Back and take the user to their previous folder.

Dynamically resizing Taskbar icons to handle overflow

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 10, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

When the taskbar becomes full to capacity it creates a second layer to hold information. This is inconvenient as users have to switch between layers to multitask, move taskbar items to suit the task at hand, or deal with it in their special own way (like (more...)

If the taskbar is set to use large icons, or rather, if the taskbar is not set to use small icons, the taskbar buttons should resize themselves to better hold more icons. The size of the icons should gradually change from the regular large icons to the (more...)

Security Tab does not appear in Folder Properties when multiple folders are selected.

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 9, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Let's say I had a folder structure that looked like this:

Root
|
|
Folder1.0 _ Folder2.0
|
|
Folder1.1 _ Folder1.2 _ Folder1.3

If I wanted to change the security settings (more...)

Allow the Security tab to be displayed when multiple objects are selected, possibly Sharing and Previous Versions as well. I've yet to touch those tabs though... I imagine when I do there will inevitably be a UX problem to report though...

Preview Pane does not work correctly once users reconfigure default file associations.

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 9, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

The preview pane doesn't function for media files (AVI, WMV, MP3) if Media Player is not set as the default handler. Pictures (JPG) render just fine with default set to Photoshop, Paint, and even Wordpad, so those are fine.

Severity (more...)

The preview pane should function independent of default association of file types. It's not like any of us can remove WMP anyway...

Open with options is disabled when selecting multiple items.

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 9, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When multiple objects are selected within an Explorer window the open with option is unavailable. So, if I have two TXT files I want to open in Wordpad, I would need to right click on each individual file and Open With > Wordpad, set TXT file default (more...)

Make "Open With..." available when multiple objects are selected.

Explorer sometimes gives cryptic messages that don't help users.

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 8, 2008 to Usability

When an error occurs Windows will generally give you a message via a yellow box, popup, or whatever indicating that something broke. The same happens when whenever conditions are less than optimal (search with no index maybe). These messages are simplififed (more...)

If something isn't indexed, just tell me. No more cryptic error messages, pop-ups, or such.

Games Explorer pins itself under Windows Explorer's jump button correctly but appears in the Taskbar as a separate entitiy.

Submitted by JonathanJ on November 8, 2008 to Annoyance

Games Explorer pins itself under Windows Explorer's jump button correctly but appears in the Taskbar as a separate entitiy. Whether or not it's pinned under Explorer, while on the taskbar Games Explorer retains the usual "Pin this program (more...)
