It's Time: Unified Control Panel

Wrote on January 2, 2009, 10:13pm

In your mockups,

I don't like integrated:
1. Windows Defender
2. The cluttered home view

I like integrated:
1. Date & time
2. Screensaver options

Disable 'Settings...' command button in Screen Saver Dialog

This IS really irritating. All they need to do is gray out the settings button.
+1.

Media Player Visualization

"Windows media player 12 is being bulit by the same guys who design the zune software."

I'd love to know where you heard this.

"I also heard somewhere that media player 12 will replace the zune software and have all the features and intergration bulit in."

It would be awesome if that happened.

I don't even use WMP anymore. I like the Zune software better.

Windows Orb is missing from bootscreen! Alternative here.

I don't mind having a sound as long as there's no orb. Hopefully they'll make an option to turn the sound off, too.

copy a file from x folder and paste it in the same folder on a removable device uses a diferent diolog box then the rest of the OS

"it should match the same dialog you get when you do the same in the main OS. (Non removable flash drive)"

I completely agree.

Volume slider/icon in WMP ?

Wrote on December 17, 2008, 5:10am

I'm not that interested in a volume slider on the preview. What I really want is a way to make the preview "always on top", so I can keep an eye on a video while working in other windows.

"when using removable media, and you want to copy a file to the same directory its in"

Are you saying "copy ANY file to the location of a removable disk"?
That doesn't make sense. You can't copy files to the Computer directory.

*Update*
After reading through your statement several more times, it occurred to me that you might be trying to say "copy a file from x folder and paste it in the same folder on a removable device".

Please update the problem description to clarify what you mean.

A better UI for taskbar

Wrote on December 15, 2008, 4:58pm

I wouldn't like resizing icons, but I like your concept of a larger Start button that sticks over the top of the taskbar to differentiate itself.

Make the gadgets locked in the desktop

Totally agree, this is one of my gripes with with Vista.

64-bit version only

I have a computer that doesn't support x64, runs Vista 32 bit fine, and I'm hoping to upgrade it to Windows 7.

Man...it would be nice if the Control Panel was like this. Just think - there would be no more clicking through 20 different dialog boxes to find the option you want!

Gadgets window errors

Wrote on November 5, 2008, 9:37pm

I run one of my Vista PCs at high dpi and there are MANY programs (even Microsoft ones) where stuff is cut off/pixely. I hope Microsoft will polish everything to work well with high dpi in Windows 7.

Allow dragging files on to pinned programs

Wrote on November 5, 2008, 2:45pm

I agree with keff. What if explorer is pinned to the taskbar but not open, and you drag a file onto it? Where in the file system would it put the file?
