Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Don't ever ask to end explorer.exe if not responding.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on September 26, 2009 to Bug, Usability

I had a horrible experience when explorer crashed. The not responding window came up and asked me if I wanted to close, restart or wait. I clicked close, forgetting that it was explorer process I was closing. I don't really know how to get explorer (more...)

Don't ever ask to close the explorer process if it is not responding. Restart or wait only.

A solution to Pin to/Open with on the Taskbar and extend length of "spring-load" time

Submitted by hoopla_punta on June 25, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I hope there's still time to implement this.

A lot of people have been complaining about the issue with the default behavior of the taskbar in when dragging and dropping items over tiles on the Taskbar.

Personally I (more...)

If a user d&d's and hovers over an icon the tooltip will say: "Open with/Pin to..."
Then if the user drops over the icon, a context menu will appear with three options:
Open with ****
Pin to *****

Constant Aero Peek list animation whether top, bottom, left or right.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on May 17, 2009 to Aesthetics

If you taskbar is on the top/bottom and you activate the list, the exiting transistion for the list is simply fading away.
If it is on the left or right side, the transition fades while sliding back into the taskbar, like a jumplist.

Use a slide and fade transistion.

Allow arranging icons on mutiple rows of the taskbar with filling the previous one up.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on May 17, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Icons can be placed anywhere on the taskbar, this is not very true. What if we want to place icons on the second row of the taskbar? I must fill up the entire first row first.

I want to be able to arrange icons like in the mockup!

Arrange by = Group by + stack by + more "wow", why not allow Arrange by in normal folders, not just libraries?

Submitted by hoopla_punta on April 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

"Arrange by" in libraries is pretty cool, first, it allows you to have this neat folder "arrange by", so you can have a slight treeview of your files and folders that no other view provides.

Second, you can sort files (more...)

Include both a Arrange by and Group by in normal folder, not just in a library.

Aero Peeking a minimized window. How can you tell it is a minimized window?

Submitted by hoopla_punta on April 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

When you aero peek a window, no matter if it is currently minimized or not, it still appears normally on your desktop. Sometimes you would like to know if it minimised, and since the buttons look the same, the only way you could tell is via the peek, (more...)

Show that a window is minimised by applying a slight transparency or effect, so that one can finally tell if the window is minimised.

Group by and View option overrides Arrange by in Libraries, make it clearer to the user.

When one tries to sort a Library through "Arrange by", sometimes (more...)

One can click on "clear changes" to undo the group by or view option, but Explorer should grey-out the Arrange by options in the drop down menu in order to tell the user that he has to do so first.

Control Panel: Be specific on whether search bar is searching content or tasks. Suggested functionality on search.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on April 27, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

1. I remember that in Vista and 7, you can search the name of a program when in the "add/remove" programs through the search bar, and the search bar is still named "search control panel". However, I believed that the same functionality (more...)

1. Control Panel search bar should define what is being searched, the list of anything, or the whole control panel so that users can tell what they are searching. If a list is being searched, give a link through a drop down menu (see below) to search (more...)

"Search again in" should always be visible during a search

Submitted by hoopla_punta on April 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

If one wishes to change the search location in one's search, he has to scroll down through all his search results, even if it is 500 results, just to reach the "Search again in" bar. This is very tedious and troublesome if there are many (more...)

Make "search again in" bar visible throughout one's search.

No way to tell if a window is minimised, maximised, active, or inactive in Taskbar.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on February 1, 2009 to Aesthetics, Legacy, Usability

With the new taskbar and new live previews, users should be able to tell if the window is:
Minimised
Maximised
Normal (active)
Not (Active)

This would slightly pose a problem with the new live previews feature, (more...)

This could be solved with different gradients in the previews of the window, I don't think different colours would be good.

Minimised: Darker gradient to the bottom 10%
Maximised Active: Darker gradient to the top 10%, Lighter (more...)

1. Search for something it comes out with a , lets say "i"
2. It comes up with the list, notice that the first item is highlighted immediately (most likely for keyboard focus)
3. Move your mouse up and down the list, and in and (more...)

Fix the focus behavior bug.

Make an advanced search for advanced users.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on January 18, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The search box is too limited and not easy to use for advanced users. I would like to see all possible fields of entry at once.

Also to change the location of the search, I must scroll down. All the way down.

Create an advanced mode of search.

Keep the Search again in: on top of the search.

Better yet, use my previous example =P.
