Desktop Icons Grid Not Perfectly Spaced

Submitted by Max on November 3, 2008 to Annoyance, Icons

The Desktop is obiviously an important part of the user experience i believe the way it looks is very important. As it is the part of the OS your going to see the most it is annoying when things are spaced correctly it was a problem on longhorn but not (more...)

Solution simple, make spacing better and text sizes when switching from Medium, Large and Classic. Easy enough to solve it can be done.

Tablets show up as Mouses with Mouse icon in the Devices and Printers window.

Add "Tablet" category if necessary and create a default icon for tablets.

add object in wordpad has a mix of old and new icons. Revamp entire add object window

Submitted by .Chris on November 28, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Legacy, Usability

As you can see in the screenshot. Whats sad, is this even exists in office 2007!

not only does the icons need updating but so does the window. Paintbrush? paint document? Same thing.

Update the entire box with mordern style and modern icons. Pass this along to the office team and have them update the add object in word. Still has icons that were used in word 97 and before!

Games, Control panel and Computer icons are not consistent

Submitted by netfreak on November 5, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

All the icons are new - Libraries, Documents, Pictures etc, they have new colors (a bit bleached), so old Vista icons with their colors are not consistent

The icon does not automatically move in notificaton area when reordering.

Submitted by Zerlot on December 16, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Legacy, Usability

The icon does not automatically move in notificaton area when reordering.
User must look at the line between the icon to move it.

Slide notification icons automatically when reordering. Just like the taskbar buttons.

Toolbar options: User customizable options

Submitted by .Chris on December 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Why cant the toolbar be user customizable? You know, being able to chose what we want to be on it, whats not and where? Like "new folder" "copy" "paste, "e-mail" etc. We cant, we must be tied down to to what YOU want (more...)

If you want Windows 7 to succeed, then do this. Make it BETTER then vista. Vista, we were tied down with the UI, windows 7, has some what changed that with the taskbar (thank god) themes, and a few more. take it to the next level with something we all (more...)

Look at them, they dont even move to face down like they should do when you click them...

If you cant be bothered to make new ones, use the windows default ones.

Disk Management's Shrink Space has an old icon

Submitted by nyp on March 13, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Legacy

On Disk Management, when you shrink a volume, you will be presented with an old icon. (mmcndmgr.dll)
Also, why there's no Cancel button?

Replace that icon. Or replace it with a progress bar.
Add a Cancel button.

Dynamic Icons using badges, not animation, in taskbar.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

A suggestion:

If you have read Long Zheng's istartedsomething.com, you would have seen that icon can display progress bars (a wonder) and other things.

I suggest that things go one step further, and allow icons to show statuses/numbers etc. in the taskbar, esp. since there's much more space for it.

For example,
Explorer: Paste Finish...
WMP: Current status (playing/paused)

Taskbar folder toolbars look and glitch

Submitted by dirtbox on July 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Icons, Legacy, Usability

Create a toolbar in the taskbar from a folder (right click the taskbar> toolbars> Desktop for example), then unlock the taskbar and drag the toolbar to the Start button side and pull the regular taskbar iconc as close as you can towards the Start (more...)

It should be replaced with a folder icon or an icon of your choosing featuring an arrow in keeping with the look of the new taskbar.
