Enable Drag&Drop to the Breadcrumb bar

Submitted by tino on November 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

The most needed feature missing in the shell IMO is dragging files and folders to the breadcrumb bar in Explorer. This would enable users to easily move items to the parent folder or extract files from a zipped folder without going trough the extraction (more...)

Feature: Enable ISO Mounting as native in Windows 7 Explorer

Submitted by cthames on February 3, 2009 to Usability

Since Virtual CD doesn't work any more a native integrated way (in Explorer) to mount ISO to the My Computer. It would also solve any conflicts with drivers and the like. I had to use System Restore in order to get Windows 7 to work again after trying (more...)

It would be beneficial for MSDN subscribers and the general public and would also get rid of Spy-ware ridden software that enables this. So the solution would be to have a native integrated way (in Explorer) like Zip except it asks to mount the ISO instead.

Extend the taskbar to multiple screens

Submitted by nick on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Now when you have multiple screens, the taskbar is only shown on the first one.
It is annoying not having the taskbar extend onto the next screen because you can't see which windows are on there.

It would be nice if the taskbar extends to all the screens, preferably a taskbar per screen.

Option to pause (and resume) a file transfer

Submitted by subseven on March 14, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Sometimes a file transfer can take up a lot of resources so I think it would be useful if you could pause it and resume it again at a later time.

Add a pause button on the file copy dialog.

Add the ability to queue file transfers in windows explorer

Submitted by ezzab on May 4, 2009 to Usability

Since i can't really explain it, i'll try illustrate a mock up scenario where the problem happens:

1. Your fiend is over at your place and you're impressing him with your amazing video library.

2. He decides (more...)

Simply add the ability to queue transfers.

Why is there so much unused whitespace in the Update Driver Software Wizard?

Submitted by Danielsmi on November 6, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

There is all this empty unused space in the Update Driver Software Wizard and we're given such a small and annoying to navigate area to find the actual drivers!!! Why!?!?

Make those boxes wider and taller, the window should maybe be bigger also, I'd like to be able to view at least 7 rows at a time, 10 would be nice but I'll be take 7 rows.

Extra border around IE8’s content

Submitted by tino on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

There is a 3px Win95-style border inside of Internet Explorer’s content area. That does make it look odd and more important prevents the scroll bar from being at the border of the screen when the window is maximized (Fitt’s Law). On the lower right (more...)

Remove the extra border.

Jumplists should include 'Open file location' in right click context menu

Submitted by Cuppa on November 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Jumplists are great, but there is no 'Open file location' command in the right click context menu for recent items (compared to the traditional Start Menu 'Recent Items' list, which does feature this command).

Add the 'Open file location' command to the context menu.

*FIXED in BUILD 6956* Add the ability to safely remove devices from within the "Devices and Printers" window

Submitted by Danielsmi on November 6, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

The new devices and printers windows is a nice place to have all your devices in one spot but it'd be nice if we could safely remove hardware from within that window without having to use the hidden by default "safely remove hardware" icon (more...)

Allow dragging files on to pinned programs

Submitted by jonathanmarston on November 4, 2008 to Usability

If you drag and drop a file from Explorer on to a pinned icon on the taskbar in 6801 it is ignored if the application is not running, and the application is switched to if it is. This is not the expected behavior, and appears to simply follow the behavior (more...)

When a file is droppped on to a pinned item in the task bar, the file should be opened in that application. For instance, if I drag a .log file onto a pinned Notepad icon, the log file should be opened in Notepad (if there are already Notepad processes (more...)

Confirmation Dialogue for "Restore All Items" Needed

Submitted by DavidTaraso on November 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

This has to be one of the largest annoyances I have ever dealt with in my experience with the Windows operating system; the lack of a confirmation dialogue when restoring all items from the Recycle Bin.

Out of geekish paranoia, I tend to (more...)

[fixed] The Scenic Ribbons don't remember their states

Submitted by tino on November 6, 2008 to Usability

By double clicking a tab on the new Ribbon UI you can collapse it. While the Office 2007 apps do remember the state of the Ribbon after closing and re-opening an app, Wordpad's and Paint's Ribbon do not remember how you have left it.

Should work like in Office 2007.

[fixed] The "Feature Bob Invented" is missing in the Scenic Ribbon

Submitted by tino on November 6, 2008 to Usability

One of the coolest (and very usefull) little details of the Fluent UI of Office 2007 is still missing in the pre-beta of Wordpad and Paint: The ability to change a tab by scrolling the mouse wheel while over the Ribbon.

Should work like in Office 2007.
