Consistent use of the Control Panel taskbar botton

Submitted by blai_cb on May 27, 2009 to Icons, Usability

When you open the Control Panel, you are opening just an other instance of explorer.exe
Why it opens his own button in the taskbar?
It doesn't happen with bin, network, games or other "special?" instances of windows explorer.

Use the same rule for all programs.

Classic Start Menu

Submitted by Hobbes2099 on May 14, 2009 to Legacy

It's not a problem per sé, and I've noticed that there's already a couple of threads requesting the option to "go back to legacy", what I believe is needed is a bit of middle ground because there was certain functionality that (more...)

Upon repeated use of certain items, previous Windows versions learned which items were of constant use and kept them shown, and which ones were less frequently needed, and hid them appropriately, keeping the Start Menu small and tidy.

it serves no real purpose, but if microsoft were to make the command prompt have a glassy background, it would make it seem less like a system application, more polished and happy.

Aero Next Taskforce needed

Submitted by Neville on April 16, 2009 to Website suggestions

Windows 7 is feature complete. Effectively nothing except Bugs and Aesthetics will be fixed between now and RTM.

Create an Aero Next Taskforce for submissions that alter the look or behaviour of Windows. Refocus Aero(renamed as Vista?) and Win7 Taskforces on bugs and aesthetics.
Split Aqua taskforce in same way.
Make Link to the Taskforce sister sites (more...)

Add more shortcuts with image in the start menu

Submitted by DEXTER on April 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

One could add more shortcuts with image in the start menu and save mouse clicks? The truth is that it would be much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Windows Vista does not think about it.

Thank you for your attention.

Submitted by qams on January 26, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

There is no Old themes and shells in Windows Vista and 7, This causes usability problems to more than 7 year experienced users of Windows XP.
So there must be Windows XP themes and Windows XP shell like customization in windows Vista and Windows (more...)

Include Customizable themes so one can customize to look like WIndows XP Professional and Royale theme or Classic Themes and shells.

Please Vote after Deep Thinking. Look Windows XP Explorer, Copy to, Move to facilties

Disable Folder Thumbnails "Live Folders"

Submitted by Sem on January 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The thumbnails for folders or live folders is a nice idea but unfortunately it doesn't come off very well and looks terrible IMO

having just plain folders all the same looks better

at present you can only turn off thumbnails (more...)

give us the option to disable thumbnails for folders only while still maintaining them for files or if you prefer turn them off for files but keeping them folders
either way make the option to turn them on or off independent from each other

Screensavers all require Direct3D?

Submitted by TheDub on December 17, 2008 to Usability

Windows 95 featured a screen saver that was a 3D maze, Windows 3.1 featured screen savers that even looked 3D. Windows 7 however requires a Direct3D capable card just to display the ribbons screen saver? Is this a joke? The only screen savers that work (more...)

Remove this purposely implemented limitation (at least as far as I can tell its on purpose). I know most consumers have 3D cards now but its just the whole idea that its been broken without justification.

Add a possibility to log in as a certain user using administrators credentials

Submitted by Wisher on November 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

As admin I know how it is annoying when you have to see/fix a problem or configure a certain feature in users environment but the user is not near you and you don't know his password. You can: 1) wait till user comes back, 2) change his password (more...)

Add a possibility to log in as a certain user using administrators credentials, not the users.

Make Windows Explorer have special effects similar to the file explorer in Mac OS X

Submitted by formula_86 on February 12, 2010 to Aesthetics, Usability

Its really boring to see all of my files arranged out in the same way as in all previous versions of Windows.

Why not add some special effects to explorer that looks like in the picture below? It would be perfect for multi-touch systems I reckon.

Problem adding new porgrams

Submitted by killer_walrus on February 6, 2010 to Usability
