keybindings and scancodes and mouse reactions

Submitted by seoman on January 16, 2010 to Usability

Since most keyboard and Mouse drivers are crappy i'm desperatly in need of an input device behaviour editor.

All input devices report their actions to the system so how come I cannot control how the system reacts to that input.

Build a system keybinding/mouse button editor wich does understand the diffence between a 5 button mouse and a mousepad and keeps track of their settings.

That way i don't have to fight the system with several half working device drivers (more...)

Differentiate between icons in the superbar that are pinned and those that are not

Submitted by indianuser on October 24, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Differentiating between icons in the superbar which are pinned and open from those which are not pinned but open is inconvenient. The only way is by right clicking the icon. If the menu asks whether you want to pin the item then that means it is not pinned (more...)

Just like there is a white visual cue on the upper left side of the icon to differentiate whether the icon is open or not another color visual cue could be added to the bottom right indicating whether the icon is pinned or not. This would divide icons (more...)

Submitted by sfsdfd on June 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The Explorer window and the Internet Explorer window have a big UI inconsistency. Consider the image below.

Windows Vista nuked the option of displaying the folder path in the Explorer window title. I never understood why Microsoft did (more...)

Create an option in the Properties section of Explorer to display the folder path in the title bar, and respect the user's preferences.

Option to turn off new command bar in Explorer

Submitted by sfsdfd on June 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Let's consider the current Explorer interface (see image below.)

At the top, we have a fairly meaty title bar... which is blank. Windows 95 through XP allowed us to show current path up there, but I guess this didn't fit with (more...)

Add an option to hide the command bar in the Explorer interface.

Submitted by patternjake on May 31, 2009 to Usability

All- if not almost all options in Windows explorer is exposed through the control panel or the buttons on the toolbar, so its the menu really nesscary? Half the time people wont know to press ALT etc.

Remove it, its pretty bare bones.

Consistent use of the Control Panel taskbar botton

Submitted by blai_cb on May 27, 2009 to Icons, Usability

When you open the Control Panel, you are opening just an other instance of explorer.exe
Why it opens his own button in the taskbar?
It doesn't happen with bin, network, games or other "special?" instances of windows explorer.

Use the same rule for all programs.

Classic Start Menu

Submitted by Hobbes2099 on May 14, 2009 to Legacy

It's not a problem per sé, and I've noticed that there's already a couple of threads requesting the option to "go back to legacy", what I believe is needed is a bit of middle ground because there was certain functionality that (more...)

Upon repeated use of certain items, previous Windows versions learned which items were of constant use and kept them shown, and which ones were less frequently needed, and hid them appropriately, keeping the Start Menu small and tidy.

Create an Aero Next Taskforce for submissions that alter the look or behaviour of Windows. Refocus Aero(renamed as Vista?) and Win7 Taskforces on bugs and aesthetics.
Split Aqua taskforce in same way.
Make Link to the Taskforce sister sites (more...)
