Document thumbnails should reflect number of pages

Submitted by brian.shapiro on November 3, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

Thumbnails are simply shown with a rectangular border—this doesn't give a good visual representation of multi-page documents.

File types that have the 'pages' property, like Word Documents, should have a representation based on the number of pages they have—a document with more than one page shown as a pile, the front page with a curl.

Or, if there's (more...)

White background behind file icons in a folder icon

Submitted by tino on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

There is an unnecessary white background behind document icons when displayed inside of a folder icon. I think it's a bad design decision.

Make use of the alpha channel and shadow of the file icons.

Legacy FTP "Log On As" Screen

Submitted by DavidTaraso on November 4, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

When logging into an FTP directory through Explorer, the Log On As screen is entirely outdated. The icons appear to be from the Windows 98 era and the color scheme does not match the newer Aero styling.

Update the icons and the window color scheme.

Create new generic install icon for developers to use.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on December 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

So far I remeber that there is no new Aero-Style generic install icon. This is what usually installshield and other apps will use.

Update with a Aero-Style icon.

Windows Installer (msiexec.exe) has an old icon

Submitted by nyp on April 5, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

Windows Installer has an OLD Windows 2000/ME style icon.

It's gotta go, get that icon gone. Replace it with something a little more Vista-like.
Also, remove that silly little window that says "Please wait while Windows configures [program]..." with the highly inaccurate progress bar.

Sound (control panel applet) icon doesn't match Aero-style

Submitted by denis.spam on November 21, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

When you go to sound settings in control panel, just look at the taskbar. The sound icon is old-school.

UPD: Can not notice if you enable small icons in taskbar.

There is nice icon (link to sound in control panel grouped/tasks view) which is higher resolution, that can be used

Text and Icons in the title bar of applications using the Scenic Ribbon are pushed down 5 pixels futher than usual, making them misaligned vertically.

Rebulid Character Map from scratch: Add your thoughts to my list

Submitted by .Chris on December 9, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy, Usability

Character map is a useful tool to get those special characters but it needs some work.

1. Update the icon. The icon looks like its from XP era, let alone looks like a game peace.
2. The fonts section is old. When you are viewing the list, it should show what the font looks like, rather then just simple text and the 9x font icon. (more...)

Improve space around clock in icontray when using small icons

Submitted by ups on January 12, 2009 to Aesthetics, Bug, Icons

In normal mode, the clock shows time and date, hence the space taken by it is governed by the date as it is longer.
If small icons in the taskbar is chosen, only the clock is displayed but the space taken is the same.
This wastes a lot (more...)

Resize the clock placeholder size in order to better accommodate the displayed information.

See mockup for suggestion.

PS: I was a bit aggressive on the new size... but you can get the idea.
