Advanced Recovery Methods uses wrong icon

Submitted by nyp on February 8, 2009 to Icons

Advanced Recovery Methods in Recovery in Control Panel uses the wrong icon, or to be specific, the Flip 3D icon, which has nothing to do with Recovery!

Change it to the Recovery icon.

<FIXED> Windows Energy and Windows Logo screensavers use legacy Vista branding

Submitted by antiufo on February 7, 2009 to Legacy

Windows Energy screensaver shows the "Energy Ribbon", part of Vista branding but not present in Windows 7.

Windows Logo screensaver shows the old Vista logo, with the orb. Replace it with something like the new boot animation.

Feature: Enable ISO Mounting as native in Windows 7 Explorer

Submitted by cthames on February 3, 2009 to Usability

Since Virtual CD doesn't work any more a native integrated way (in Explorer) to mount ISO to the My Computer. It would also solve any conflicts with drivers and the like. I had to use System Restore in order to get Windows 7 to work again after trying (more...)

It would be beneficial for MSDN subscribers and the general public and would also get rid of Spy-ware ridden software that enables this. So the solution would be to have a native integrated way (in Explorer) like Zip except it asks to mount the ISO instead.

<FIXED> <FIXED, HELP PAGE REMOVED> Windows Help suggests using Autoruns for disabling startup programs, but it's too complex and dangerous when used by inexpert users

Submitted by antiufo on February 1, 2009 to Usability

Search on Windows Help and Support "Stop a program from running automatically when Windows starts".

It suggests downloading Autoruns from Microsoft Sysinternals, but inexpert users could disable shell extensions, services or drivers (more...)

At least add a warning box, or show by default only 3rd party apps (excluding drivers and services)

AutoComplete animation is old

Submitted by nyp on January 29, 2009 to Aesthetics, Legacy

The AutoComplete animation in Internet Explorer seems like it came from stone age.

Update it to have the Aero cursor and Aero styles.
Or remove this dialog entirely. No other browser asks this.

[fixed] Media Player does support less video formats than Photo Gallery

Submitted by tino on January 27, 2009 to Annoyance, Legacy

Yes. It's strange. But please try it: after installing QuickTime I'm still not able to play .mov files in Windows Media Player 12 but in Windows Live Photo (!) Gallery. HD works even much smoother than in QuickTime (not a big surprise, btw).

If the technology is there, it should be used in all media applications.

Remote Desktop displays a Windows XP style Reconnecting window when the network disconnects

Submitted by nyp on January 23, 2009 to Aesthetics

When you are using Remote Desktop and your connection suddenly disconnects, you get a nice blue Luna style Reconnecting window.

Restyle it to Vista/7 style. Maybe something like the one in the image.

Content Advisor is outdated

Submitted by nyp on January 23, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

Content Advisor dialogs have outdated icons, an unstyled button. wasted space and etc...

I think that they should just completely demolish Content Advisor because Parental Controls is much more powerful and isn't buried inside Internet Options.

[fixed] Aero Glass: very poor blur quality

Submitted by tino on January 22, 2009 to Aesthetics, Bug

Try this: Move a window behinde the transparent taskbar. You will see text and other elements do flicker heavily. This was no problem in Vista.

[fixed] Aero Peek: no difference between opened and previewed windows

Submitted by tino on January 22, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Aero Peek is very usefull. But sometimes I "lost" a window because I forgot to click on the thumbnail preview in the taskbar. This is because there is no difference between a "real" opened active window and the Aero Peek preview.

Provide a different design for window previews by:

a. Use the taskbar hottrack color on the glass border or
b. Use a 5% transparency or
c. ...?

Control Panel View [FIXED in 7048]

Submitted by Dubya on January 21, 2009 to Annoyance

When running Control Panel from the desktop or Start Menu, it remembers if you changed the view to show all items (as opposed to the category view) but when Control Panel is pinned to the taskbar it always opens in Category View when run from there.

Make Control Panel remember last view when pinned to the taksbar.
