Add option for classic right click taskbar menu

Submitted by Technex on October 27, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The new Windows 7 Taskbar right-click is slow to use quickly, due to the menu being off-set to the left and up by a large amount.

Compared to the "Classic" right click menu which is only a few pixels away from where you first (more...)

Add an option in Taskbar properties to allow classic right-click menu as default. (No holding shift).

Gadgets no longer dock

Submitted by skione on October 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

In vista the side bar could be put into dock mode where it would slice a piece of screen real estate off and even if you maximize an app it would still cut off the neccessary part of the screen.

Windows 7 gadgets appear to no longer have (more...)

Prevent Windows from Opening Under the Taskbar When It Is At the Top of the Screen

Submitted by brownbat on October 26, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When the taskbar's at the top of the screen, most windows open gracefully beneath it, but a few surprising windows always pop up with their controls hidden under the taskbar. Windows Media Player is one unexpected example, there's a specific (more...)

How about not starting applications with their title bar under the task bar?

advanced search--make it useable

Submitted by hansonjb on October 25, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

searching for 2 different types of files appears to be virtually impossible.

the search needs to say to select multiple dates (it appears that you can only select one date)

the types of file needs to appear more quickly; (more...)

bring back the vista advanced search dialog box but make it easier to get to (eg an icon that says "advanced search" that takes you to the dialog box.

Windows 7 not showing Audio Channels

Submitted by Goregath The Mighty on October 24, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I can't seem to find the audio channels of any music file. I was able to do this in XP and was wondering if its just somewhere random, or if there is already a post about this. Would be nice to know the audio channels of my music files.

Differentiate between icons in the superbar that are pinned and those that are not

Submitted by indianuser on October 24, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Differentiating between icons in the superbar which are pinned and open from those which are not pinned but open is inconvenient. The only way is by right clicking the icon. If the menu asks whether you want to pin the item then that means it is not pinned (more...)

Just like there is a white visual cue on the upper left side of the icon to differentiate whether the icon is open or not another color visual cue could be added to the bottom right indicating whether the icon is pinned or not. This would divide icons (more...)

Show size for folders in details view

Submitted by shakey.oberon on October 23, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I don't understand why you still cant see the size of a folder in details view in explorer. You have to either hover the mouse over the folder or bring up the properties for it.
This was annoying in xp and it still is now, 10 years later!

Simply display the size of folders in the details view in explorer, makes sense to me

Cannot easily move window with many Quick Access icons

Submitted by joesixgig on October 23, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

When a user places a long Quick Access toolbar on the window title bar of Word or Wordpad documents, the portion of the title bar that can be used for moving the window becomes very small. This is annoying in day to day use ('misclicks', spending (more...)

Make a click-and-drag on any Quick Access tool buttons act as a 'window move' command. There currently is no click-and-drag functionality for toolbar buttons, so mapping this to 'move window' would not inhibit any existing behavior, (more...)

Auto-hide Task Bar stays visible permanently on application alert

Submitted by jlukic on October 22, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

It's nice that the task bar shows itself when a window is flashing, but it would be even nicer if the task bar hid itself after a certain number of seconds.

Having the task bar stay open is a nuisance because windows snap to the edge (more...)

Add an option under task bar properties to set how many seconds the taskbar shows itself on alert (5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, always, never).

That way users can select

Submitted by chvaca on October 21, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

The programs are still installed, they are simply no longer listed making it harder to find and excecute them
This bug appears when too many applications in "All Programs" are installed.

Greg Duncan' s Blog has a solution for it

Copying or Moving files scatters the filenames at destination

Submitted by breadstick on October 20, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The is due to auto-arrange being active all the time, combined with the current file sorting arrangement. When files are copied or moved, explorer will update the file location in real time, instead of displaying new files in a block together as before.

Allow the option to disable auto-arrange.

Ability to Disable Libraries

Submitted by Wardrop on October 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The libraries concept is a good one, don't get me wrong, but if you don't use them for whatever reason (possible reasons listed below), then why can't we be given the ability to disable libraries, which honestly, wouldn't be a hard (more...)

Either implement Libraries properly (http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/2539) and provide the necessary options to customise (more...)

Productivity fixes for Coders / Power Users / XP Users

Submitted by xpuser on October 19, 2009 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Windows Explorer:
1. Give the ability to activate the 'old' tree view, with proper indent and connecting lines, in the navigation pane (see regedit).
2. Give the ability to reduce the vertical distance (gab between lines) of the (more...)

Easy fixes, since the code for most of them already exists.
However, as I see it, it is little things like the above that will facilitate the transmission from xp for all those who rejected vista.

Explorer view by Large Icons keyboard shortcut unusable

Submitted by breadstick on October 18, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Those who use keyboard strokes to perform tasks like changing file views cannot easily change to Large Icon view. For example, switching to Details view in Explorer is done by Alt > v > d keyboard strokes. Since Large Icon view is assigned to lowercase (more...)
