Explorer Search box resizing

Submitted by Curtis on January 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

When you open explorer and would like to resize the width of the search box, the resize zone where your cursor switches between normal cursor and resize cursor is only one pixel wide whereas the 2 search boxes are 9 pixels apart, this makes resizing them (more...)

Make the resize zone in explorer wider like it is in IE so it fills the gap between the two text boxes and is easier to hit with the mouse.

Also, as a side note, for consistencies sake, perhaps make the width between the two textboxes the (more...)

Start menu User folder link

Submitted by Curtis on January 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When you open the start menu and click on the button with your user name it takes you to the libraries folder instead of your user folder. Considering that all the different individual libraries are listed below your user name (Documents, Pictures etc), (more...)

Make the button with your user name take you to you user folder. If there needs to be a link in the start menu that takes you to your libraries folder then it should be called "Libraries", the same way it is in explorers navigation pane. Although (more...)

<build 7000> Uncustomisable Quick Access Toolbar in Paint and Wordpad (and orange-dotted icons)

Submitted by billerr on January 9, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Icons

1. The Quick Access Toolbar in Paint and Wordpad (the one residing in the title bar, has no options to reorder the icons in it. It just places them in the order in which you activate them.

For example if you have "Save", "Undo" (more...)

1. Add an option for custom-ordering the icons in the dropdown menu of the Quick Access Toolbar, as is the case with the Office 2007 programs. Anyway, replicating the Office Ribbon functionality (than just the looks) would offer more consistency.

I feel like ive travelled back 10 years: Private Character Editor

Submitted by patternjake on May 31, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

If you are going to include this program that 99.9% of the planet doesnt even use, make sure that it doesnt look like a Windows 95 program. Its all OLD.

Oh and its even worse because its no longer buried in Windows, its in the START MENU!

AT LEAST:

-Add a manifest to the program so it can use visual syles on controls
-Update the icons to match Aero style

Enhanced Start Menu customization to allow Classic Start Menu Emulation

Submitted by Onyma on February 3, 2009 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Read the "Solution" before judging. I am sorely disappointed to see the loss of the classic Start menu in Win7. A large percentage of the users in my corporation request for the classic start menu to be enabled. I am pleased to see the classic (more...)

Thing is you don't have to bring back any old code, you merely have to enhance the new code. If I could do the following four items then I could simulate the old menu style for my users: (all under "Customize Start Menu")

Windows Media Center Music Viz: Slow, Shows Podcasts

Submitted by alirobe on January 4, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

Windows Media Center's Music Playback screen (Build 7000) shows all my album artwork slowly scrolling upwards in the background. However, it slows performance to about 2fps on an Intel X3100. Also, it shows podcast (and presumably audiobook) artwork, (more...)

Prerender the album artwork then do a faded wipe to reveal it, or slowly remove the complex shadows and rendering effects used on the artwork once it is placed. Also, do not show album artwork for spoken word, podcast, audiobook and other obvious genres.

Games Explorer. No customization

Submitted by nothere_99 on September 3, 2009 to Annoyance
