IE should use native menus

Submitted by Cuppa on December 31, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

IE8's menus don't all have normal styling. In particular, the submenu 'arrow' turns white when hovered (rather than staying black), and disabled items have a different text colour and selection colour when hovered (compared to normal (more...)

Use native menu styling.

In Explorer, in the folder panel, right-clicking a non-selected item highlights it in the same way as a selected item.

Submitted by eikonoklastes2 on December 28, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug

As the title (and the image) describes, if you select something (anything) from the left pane of Windows Explorer and then directly right-click on another item, the item is highlighted in the same way as a selected item, even though it's not actually (more...)

Highlight the right-clicked item in a different way to indicate that it's not the same as the selected item.

Update the legacy help program (for applications).

Submitted by hoopla_punta on November 27, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy

The help module for applications has not be updates since I do not know when, and since they decided the would update things every 15 years, they should do so for the help module as it has some really ugly icons.

Keep the interface, but update the icons!

Start menu & taskbar shadows

Submitted by Antonio on November 7, 2008 to Aesthetics

When aero is active every window has a shadow around the glass border which helps to round the corners. Strange but real, the start menu round borders are quite ugly because of the absence of any shadow. Even the taskbar hasn't got it.

Put a softer shadow around these fundamental elements of the interface. When application are maximised the taskbar shadow should be disabled.

Power Options Should Not Consider Computer Inactive if Video Is Playing

Submitted by brownbat on June 4, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When watching video, especially internet video through Hulu or Netflix, the Power Options will consider the computer not in use, because no input is coming in.

The Power Options should know whether or not video is being watched, and act accordingly.

The user could switch power profiles, but as internet video services gain more and more popularity, it would be a smart development sign if the power (more...)

File Sharing wizard has old XP icon

Submitted by nitrous9200 on April 25, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

After sharing a folder through the File Sharing wizard, an XP era exclamation point shows up next to the warning about not being able to share files if the computer is sleeping.

Change the icon. I can't believe this is actually in the RC!

Add a function to pin the Window Preview in the Taskbar

Submitted by Jochen on April 18, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

It would be very useful for me - and I think for many other users - if it was possible to pin the little preview window when you hover over an application in the taskbar (so that the preview Windows is always on top). For example, I could still watch (more...)

Add a pin Button left to the close button in the preview window

Make tooltips on start menu more than one line

Submitted by Christo on April 18, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

I belive that there is some law or something that a user will only read a certain amount of wide text before the eye gets tired and stops. The tooltip for shutdown is bad, and hibernate is even worse. Why do these tooltips have to be one line?

Make these tooltips more than one line, please

IEAK 8 Icons

Submitted by thommck on January 27, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons

Ok, so I know this is not technically part of Windows 7 but it is a new program that is still using legacy, unscalable icons that stick out like a sore thumb.

Update the Internet Explorer Administration Kit icons to fully scalable, full colour and more relevant icons (i.e. it should use the IE8 icon instead of the generic globe)

Customizable Clock

Submitted by mvalley on December 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The clock on at the edge of the taskbar cannot be customized regarding the formatting of the time and date.

Allow users to specify how they want the time and date displayed. Users should be able to choose whether or not to display the time or the date, and be able to select from a variety of formats for a 2-row layout or a 1 row layout. The attached picture (more...)

Boot screen is stretched on almost every display

Submitted by tino on November 9, 2008 to Aesthetics

It is a minor issue but why is the new boot screen still in 4:3? Almost every display out there is 16:9 or 16:10.

Make the new boot screen 16:9 so that it will only be stretched on legacy displays.
