Superbar IE8 Tab Switching Bugs

Submitted by BraedenP on November 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

There are two problems with the pop-up tab thumbnails in the Win7 Superbar:

1. The tab images don't update properly all the time. In the image below, the "JCXP.net" page does not currently look like that.

2. (more...)

I think that:

1. The tab images should update, even when the tab is not active.
2. IE8 should be brought to then front AND switch to the selected tab when clicking on a thumbnail.

Modernize "Browse For Folder" dialog

Submitted by migueld on May 7, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

The "Browse For Folder" dialog lacks features that the new open dialogs offers such as sidebar favorites and custom views.

Browsing for a folder should include the same UI features as the open dialogs such as sidebar favorites and custom views.

Cannot multiple select items in the task bar by holding down control

Submitted by i00 on April 14, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Ever since Windows 98 (maybe 95) you could select multiple windows from the task bar by holding down control and clicking on the windows (in the task bar) that you wanted to select. This would allow you to quickly close, and organize multiple selections (more...)

Put the option back!

Arrows in breadcrumb bar should be greyed out on inactive windows

Submitted by tino on March 12, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

To remove clutter on inactive windows the black triangles on the breadcrumb bar in Explorer should be greyed out like in Vista.

Make the triangles transparent/grey like the text when a window is not active.

<build 7000> Jump List refresh (WLMessenger example)

Submitted by billerr on January 9, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When you open the WLMessenger Jump List, and change your status, the choice is not reflected on the Jump List itself. It just keeps the state it had when invoked.

I don't know if this happens generally on Jump List with such checking (more...)

Make Jump Lists refresh their state when choices are made in them.

Internet Explorer Mutiple Download Dialogue's

Submitted by robbiejuk08 on December 29, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When Downloading multiple files, a user would have multiple download dialogue boxes on screen taking up screen real-estate and the only option to remedy this is to minimise each box or show desktop, then each dialogue would be grouped on taskbar again (more...)

User's may benefit from tabbed download boxes so when downloading multiple files they are contained into one dialogue box and tabbed for the user to browse through

Add a keyboard shortcut to create a new folder to explorer

Submitted by hami1car on December 16, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Creating a new folder is an extremely common task for power users. It's annoying to have to go to a menu to do this. A keyboard shortcut would solve this.

Might I recommend CTRL-SHIFT N? That would be peachy.

Merge both speech windows in to one central window.

Submitted by .Chris on November 25, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy, Usability

This idea is to merge the window thats presented in the screenshot, with the window in this link. Reason is simple, the new window presents the same features, just in a advanced mode. It also adopts the new aero wizzards

Merge with this:

Synchronize Folder Treeview With Current Folder

Submitted by brownie on November 19, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

I sometimes want to move an item to a lower level in the folder hierarchy. In Windows 6, it was easy to do this using the folder treeview by dragging the item to the new location in the tree because it was synchronized with my current folder.

Title bar 'drag to restore' gesture doesn't work with all programs

Submitted by Cuppa on November 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

In Windows 7, a window can be maximised by dragging its title bar to the top of the screen. Similarly, a maximised window can be restored by dragging the title bar away from the top of the screen. However, the latter does not work with some applications (more...)

WMP and Media Center should have native Bluray support

Submitted by andys3 on July 27, 2009 to Usability

In terms of Windows 8 I guess .. instead of using third party software such as PowerDVD to play Bluray films in media center it should be supported by default by both media center and WMP.

Basically, you should be able to put a bluray disc in the drive and then just play it through either going to "Play DVD" (perhaps it could be changed to "Play Movie Disc"?) or by asking you if you want to play it.
