Make Windows Explorer have special effects similar to the file explorer in Mac OS X

Submitted by formula_86 on February 12, 2010 to Aesthetics, Usability

Its really boring to see all of my files arranged out in the same way as in all previous versions of Windows.

Why not add some special effects to explorer that looks like in the picture below? It would be perfect for multi-touch systems I reckon.

Problem adding new porgrams

Submitted by killer_walrus on February 6, 2010 to Usability

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate a few weeks ago onto a fresh, brand new hard drive and my system was running great. But whenever I go to try and add a program, or even to update a program, when it goes to install I'll get an error saying it can't (more...)

Aero turning itself off and on, a hidden shortcut?

Submitted by LucianDK on December 27, 2009 to Bug

A few times now Ive noticed when playing world of warcraft for hours that Aero suddenly would turn itself off and revert to the windows 7 basic theme while playing. Only shutting down WoW would then return Aero and a friend speculated it might be a reaction (more...)

If its a shortcut as suspected, Ill like a way to turn off the functionality so it isnt accidentally pressed.

But this button is not present, only the left arrow in the left corner is available.

Could this be a bit more cooler? (Add gadgets dialog)

Submitted by patternjake on May 31, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

This dialog bores me. (Even in aero mode) Just the idea that its even a dialog is a problem. Could it be possible to add a Mac OS X style add to gadgets interface (with the cool scrolling and all that)

-No im not an apple fanboi, I have (more...)

Make it look different from Vistas. The dialog is good an all but this is the next Windows, we want something a bit more revolunitonary!

Submitted by srinivasan133 on May 29, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

I was playing a video clip on Windows Media Player 12. I decided to maximize the window screen of wmp12 by dragging it to the top of the screen. When I dragged it to the top, the system immediately stopped responding. The mouse pointer doesn't (more...)

Laptop Speakers Broken into 2 Playback Devices

Submitted by BraydenReesor on May 7, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

I have a Asus G2S Laptop, which includes 4 built in speakers (2 on top, 2 on the bottom). In Vista, these all showed up under 1 playback device. Which was fine. But after upgrading to Windows 7 Beta, they're now broken up into separate playback devices. (more...)

Well the obvious solution is to figure out why it broke them up into 2 different devices in the first place. But another way to fix this, which would actually be a useful feature, would be to bring back multiple playback devices (such as in WinXP).

Driver Software Installation windows is very crowded

Submitted by xombie on April 20, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons

Windows Media Player 12 Icon

Submitted by yannduran on April 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

It seems to me that the icon for WMP 12 (& I think it was the same for 11 as well) doesn't seem to match the overall "look & feel" of WMP itself.

There's the hint of a play button (which is good) & a vague (more...)

Revamp WMP's program icon, by using comething like the actual "play" button image as the icon, that uses WMP's color scheme, replacing the current blue & orange icon.

If the existing icon was changed to have the (more...)

Redesign the Start Orb so it stands out.

Submitted by Jaips on February 28, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

With the redesigned taskbar and large appilcation icons, the current 'start orb' no longer stands out as special. Such an important UI element should have a strong visual mass.

Redesign the start-orb to be more prominent [suggestion attached]

Pop-out Window for list of Programs. (Does not need to be Explorer)

Submitted by hoopla_punta on December 14, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

Allow users to have a Pop-out Window for list of Programs.

This will be easier for them to move the icons (and folders) and also, have a good full view of all their software instead of being limited to their list (and full high res glory (more...)

Create a Program Window.

How do you want to call it? Program Manager, Program Window... pls comment.

Font Shadow on Desktop????

Submitted by my eyes are sore on February 24, 2010 to Usability

From reading earlier posts it is apparent that many users are unhappy with the shadow fonts on the desktop. I tried to improve it by contrast and size, but the images are still blurry and my eyes already hurt from straining after just a couple hours. (more...)

Remove the shadow and use a clear font such as Arial in white or black. Maybe there can be an option for color, but REMOVE the shadow.
