Windows Photo Viewer decreases quality and size of files when rotated

Problem: When you rotate an image in Windows Photo Viewer it overwrites the previous file with one of lower quality. For example, a file that was origionally 76,470 bytes in size is decreased to 60,129 bytes after a single rotate and 59,889 bytes after 3 rotates. (more...)

Solution: Use the orientation attribute in the EXIF data to store rotation information and render appropriatley.

Maximise after restore incorrectly placed when task bar is at the top

Problem: 1. Position the task bar at the top of the screen (Taskbar > Properties > Taskbar location on screen = Top)
2. Run a command prompt (Start > "cmd")
3. Maximise the command prompt

Pointless warning when deleting .exe files in Windows Explorer using the "Organize" menu

Problem: - Select an unsigned *.exe file to delete in Windows Explorer.

Solution: - Remove this pointless warning. It doesn't appear if you press the delete key on your keyboard, nor if you right-click to delete.

Program Compatibility Assistant never remembers setting not to ask again

Problem: I'm logged in as a regular user. Whenever I run the program that isn't compatible with windows 7, such as media player classic or media player classic - homecinema and then close it when done, Program Compatibility Assistant will popup asking (more...)

Solution: Actually keep a list of the programs I say for the Program Compatibility Assistant not to ask me again about.

Icons view doesn't show small changes in names

Problem: -Create a new file in a folder that has the Icons view and name it "test.txt"
-Rename it "Test.txt" (with a capital T)

Some full-screen applications / games may display the taskbar

Problem: Some full-screen applications or games still retain the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I had initially thought this to be an issue caused by the new desktop window manager, but it turned out to be related to high-DPI.

Solution: If you are using high-DPI: Right-click the application in question and on the compatibility tab tick the checkbox to disable high-DPI scaling.
