Provide more details about search results in Start Menu

Submitted by tino on November 10, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Would be very helpful to get more information about the selected search result (especially thumbnails for images). Show what is in the details pane in Windows Explorer and for applications the Start Menu could show the Jump List for the selected program.

Display the details pane for a selected file and a Jump List for an application.

Wordpad Spellcheck

Submitted by loopyoyo on November 3, 2008 to Usability

Wordpad desperatly needs a spell check...woth todays im's/phone texting and what not...the fate of the gramatically correct world rests on proper spelling. The world might literally go to shambles if this feature isnt implemented into Windows Seven. (more...)

I think your guys proably know how to code this into wordpad so i dont need to go into further detail.

P.S. and when your done with that can you shoot around the possibility of maybe a spell check for ie8 also?

Which IE is which?

Submitted by StormChaser on January 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

In the volume mixer, if you have multiple IE tabs that produce sound, each will show up separately, but it's impossible to know which is which without trying each one.

Display either the name of the tab instead of Internet Explorer, or show the name of the tab on a mouse hover.

ALT+F4 should close a window while in Flip 2D

Submitted by tino on November 8, 2008 to Usability

With ALT+TAB we can easily switch windows. It would be great that while you still holding down the ALT-key, pressing F4 would close the selected window. Would enable users to close a lot of windows very fast.

That is a nice detail in OS (more...)

ALT+F4 should not close Flip 2D but the selected window.

Windows Image & Fax Viewer doesn't animate animated gifs

Submitted by DARKGuy on December 21, 2008 to Bug, Usability

If you double-click a .gif on a folder, it'll open IE, but if you cycle to it using the image viewer, it won't animate.

Animate GIFs? also, make it faster, not like XP which did but at 1/2 of the real speed.

Windows Explorer Scrolling

Submitted by Englez on November 20, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

In MS Outlook, to be able to scroll through some pane, it's enough to position your mouse cursor somewhere in that pane. In Windows Explorer, first you have to click on some part of the window to begin scrolling through it.

Make Windows Explorer behave like MS Outlook.

Calculator on Start Menu Search

Submitted by dicoq on April 13, 2009 to Usability

The Start Menu Search could be like Mac OS X Spotlight when we type a math formula.

I made a mock-up of how it should be. The Screenshot explains everything.
Perhaps to force the search to display a math result instead of searching for items, you'd just need to put '=' at the end of the math expression, like 1+2=

Better multi-monitor support for Taskbar

Submitted by pmbAustin on May 6, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When you have multiple monitors, currently you only get one taskbar on the primary monitor, and desktop is repilicated between them. You really have no control over where apps appear when you launch them, where dialogs appear, or any ability to utilize (more...)

It would be nice if you could have the option to have the taskbar on each monitor, and to be able to customize which items are pinned to which taskbar. Applications pinned to the task bar on a given monitor will launch on that given monitor. Each task (more...)

Fix multiple audio source output

Submitted by mark-in-dallas on January 21, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Can only output audio to one device at a time

Put back the functionality to output to multiple audio sources at the same time, which Windows XP had, but some brilliant engineer at Microsoft decided was no longer needed and removed in Vista - which is supposed to be the ultimate media experioence!
