Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Run window should have "Run as administrator" checkbox

Submitted by AllUltima on February 14, 2010 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

"Run" used to be the "quick and dirty" way to run stuff FAST (i.e. I could Run cmd and get a command prompt). But under UAC I typically need an ELEVATED command prompt, which requires me to find/make an elevated shortcut for. If it (more...)

Add "Run as Administrator" in the Run Window under the Open: [path] combo-box. Require the user to manually toggle the box for security reasons consistent with UAC.

Windows Photo Viewer decreases quality and size of files when rotated

Submitted by kiwiant on February 23, 2010 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When you rotate an image in Windows Photo Viewer it overwrites the previous file with one of lower quality. For example, a file that was origionally 76,470 bytes in size is decreased to 60,129 bytes after a single rotate and 59,889 bytes after 3 rotates. (more...)

Use the orientation attribute in the EXIF data to store rotation information and render appropriatley.

Allow Windows Photo Viewer to rotate read-only files

Submitted by kiwiant on February 23, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

When opening faxes in tiff format from Outlook, Outlook saves to the Temporary Internet Files folder and makes the file read-only. When viewing in Windows Photo Viewer (the default viewer for tiff files) the image cannot be rotated.

Allow images opened with Windows Photo Viewer to be rotated but just warn the user (without the use of a dialog box) that the rotation will not be saved.

Stop the "Safely remove hardware" icon from jumping around.

Submitted by xombie on February 27, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

Try this if you have more than one removable device.

Plug them in. Now move the remove hardware icon to any position except the leftmost.

Click on it and remove one device. The icon will jump to the left to show a notification. (more...)

Don't make it change position just to show a notification.

Where do custom sound schemes go?

Submitted by bernard on February 23, 2010 to Usability

Windows has given you the ability to create custom sound schemes since Windows 9x. It's not easy to locate where these custom schemes go once you create them, though. So for example it's not easy to backup and restore your schemes, and it's (more...)

Have the taskbar resize like in a window (more smoothly).

Submitted by computerkid on March 13, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Currently when you resize the task bar, and keep your mouse held at a certain spot the windows is still in the same spot making it seem a little clunky in my opinion.

Make the windows move to fill up the space that is opened up when you resize the task bar (kinda like the way a window resizes). In my opinion, it could give the illusion of a faster system.

On the right, when searching for "automatic" in the control panel, (more...)

Make the adress bar display something useful like " [Search path] > Search for [search term] " or something like that.

Cycle Songs with Back/Forward Mouse Buttons

Submitted by pedro_cesar on February 15, 2010 to Usability

Nowadays many windows applications make use of most mouse buttons. WMP12 seems to be an exception. With the back and forward buttons on almost every single mouse being produced right now it would be nice to be able to cycle songs with them.

Link "Previous" and "Next" buttons in WMP with the Back and Forward buttons in the mouse respectively (It would be also nice if it worked on top of the Aero Peek).

Allow toggling of 'legacy' standard for drive/file size and 'drive manufacturer' standard.

Submitted by micjustmic on February 14, 2010 to Usability

Okay, everyone has gone over this I'm sure; Windows and up until recently, the rest of the world uses 1024 (based on 2^10) as a kilobyte., while the hard drive 'people' use 1000 bytes at a kilobyte, causing your 1.5 TB drive to show up (more...)

Simply give the option to toggle how it measures hard drive space.

I understand the hiccups that will be caused with installation software, but how many of us have loaded our drives to the point where that little bit of difference is going (more...)
