Sound devices mgmt need a revamp. DO IT.

Submitted by Wes Perring on March 18, 2010 to Annoyance, Icons, Usability

QA time.
When displaying two audio devices next to the task tray by left clicking the speaker icon, I can't set a default audio device without opening a new faking winder.

I want to set the default audio device by right click > set default on the device image; after left clicking the speaker icon next to the task tray.

Blu-ray drive icon should have the disc blue.

Submitted by .Chris on February 14, 2010 to Icons

While the actual disks are not blue, it would be nice to have the icon blue, so those who may have dual drives, one being a blu-ray and one being a normal DVD drive can tell the difference,.

Allow themepacks to be downloaded within the 'Personalization' interface

Submitted by formula_86 on April 1, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

Instead of the 'more themes online' link, why not have a function a bit like Windows Update, so that you can check for any new free themepacks from within the Personalization interface and if there are any new ones available and select the ones (more...)

Make possible what is suggested above.

Click-to-drag Scrolling Desktop Icons

Submitted by everetteli on February 7, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

No problem, just a moderate upgrade to increase usability.

Click-to-drag Scrolling Desktop
Adding this feature would increase the available space to place icons (or even windows) on the desktop.
Perhaps a 360* tower option vs. a large bordered virtual desktop the viewing window (monitor) could (more...)

Windows XP Mode Setup uses Wizard 97

Submitted by nyp on January 30, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

The new Windows XP Mode setup still uses the old Wizard 97 and not the new Aero Wizard.
Also, on the browse location dialog, there are some old icons.

Revamp the setup dialog.

Shared folder, Icon Change

Submitted by Toppack on March 17, 2010 to Icons, Usability

Hello,
In Windows-98 File-manager, the folder Icons Changed when the folder was Shared on the network, but I've Not found a way to activate this, in later OSs.

This was a very helpful feature, to quickly determine if the folders were shared or not.
I would very much like for this to be added to Windows-7 ?
Thank you,
Rick

Boring looking Scanner properties dialog

Submitted by formula_86 on February 10, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

When I go to Devices & Printers, select my all-in-one printer, then go to view the scanner properties, the scanner icon in the resulting dialog box after clicking the link is Windows XP style and the dialog is rather boring to look at.

Update the icon, and perhaps integrate the scanner properties page into Windows Explorer.

Make Windows Explorer more Office aware

Submitted by formula_86 on March 27, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

I am NOT trying to post this as an Office UX quirk, even though it may seem like it. OK, here goes:

Say for example you have got your 'Documents' folder and you create sub-folders to categorise your different file types, ie: one (more...)

Make Windows Explorer more aware of Office files even if MS Office isn't installed, so if you have one folder with mostly .docx and .doc files, colour code it blue, .pptx and .ppt files, files colour code it red, and .xlsx and .xls files colour code (more...)

Construct whole new UI design, vector icon package and programming API etc for Windows 7

Submitted by formula_86 on February 17, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy, Usability

As nice and pretty though Windows 7 is with its scalable vector based icons, Aero UI,WPF apis etc etc, lets face it: its based on a vintage win32 API which was cool and awesome in 1995, but because its now 15 years since, its time for a change methinks.

Reconstruct Windows 7 in whole new ways as suggested in the title.
