Desktop Icon Text

Submitted by mikem722 on May 9, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

The text on the desktop icons is White, and portions of my desktop background picture is also white, which makes to text very hard to read.

It would be nice to be able to change the color of the text under the desktop icons

Make Windows Explorer more Office aware

Submitted by formula_86 on March 27, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

I am NOT trying to post this as an Office UX quirk, even though it may seem like it. OK, here goes:

Say for example you have got your 'Documents' folder and you create sub-folders to categorise your different file types, ie: one (more...)

Make Windows Explorer more aware of Office files even if MS Office isn't installed, so if you have one folder with mostly .docx and .doc files, colour code it blue, .pptx and .ppt files, files colour code it red, and .xlsx and .xls files colour code (more...)

Suggestion: add different views and organize the Control Panel

Submitted by lipinho170 on December 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Icons, Usability

If you look the screenshot, i'll see a big blank side, for just 4 control panel options. Why don't add different icon views to the control panel? Than, we'd see the icons bigger, and, just like in the explorer, a Details View, than, we (more...)

Solution is on the "Problem".
Ps: BEFORE post anything saying: "don't say cheat you child", look the image and see if it doesn't looks better and faster..

Construct whole new UI design, vector icon package and programming API etc for Windows 7

Submitted by formula_86 on February 17, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy, Usability

As nice and pretty though Windows 7 is with its scalable vector based icons, Aero UI,WPF apis etc etc, lets face it: its based on a vintage win32 API which was cool and awesome in 1995, but because its now 15 years since, its time for a change methinks.

Reconstruct Windows 7 in whole new ways as suggested in the title.

Differentiate between icons in the superbar that are pinned and those that are not

Submitted by indianuser on October 24, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

Differentiating between icons in the superbar which are pinned and open from those which are not pinned but open is inconvenient. The only way is by right clicking the icon. If the menu asks whether you want to pin the item then that means it is not pinned (more...)

Just like there is a white visual cue on the upper left side of the icon to differentiate whether the icon is open or not another color visual cue could be added to the bottom right indicating whether the icon is pinned or not. This would divide icons (more...)

Consistent use of the Control Panel taskbar botton

Submitted by blai_cb on May 27, 2009 to Icons, Usability

When you open the Control Panel, you are opening just an other instance of explorer.exe
Why it opens his own button in the taskbar?
It doesn't happen with bin, network, games or other "special?" instances of windows explorer.

Use the same rule for all programs.

Add more shortcuts with image in the start menu

Submitted by DEXTER on April 10, 2009 to Aesthetics, Icons, Usability

One could add more shortcuts with image in the start menu and save mouse clicks? The truth is that it would be much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Windows Vista does not think about it.

Thank you for your attention.

Windows Media Player 12 Icon

Submitted by yannduran on April 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

It seems to me that the icon for WMP 12 (& I think it was the same for 11 as well) doesn't seem to match the overall "look & feel" of WMP itself.

There's the hint of a play button (which is good) & a vague (more...)

Revamp WMP's program icon, by using comething like the actual "play" button image as the icon, that uses WMP's color scheme, replacing the current blue & orange icon.

If the existing icon was changed to have the (more...)
