Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Option to pause (and resume) a file transfer

Submitted by subseven on March 14, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Sometimes a file transfer can take up a lot of resources so I think it would be useful if you could pause it and resume it again at a later time.

Add a pause button on the file copy dialog.

Closing laptop should NOT hibernate after shutdown has been ordered

Submitted by limulus on April 8, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When I physically close my laptop computer, Windows goes into hibernation, which is a good thing since it saves battery power.

However, this also happens if I close the laptop shortly AFTER ordering it to shut down. The shutdown is interrupted (more...)

Once a system shutdown has been ordered, disable the service that puts the system into hibernation when the laptop is being physically closed.

"Folder in Use" dialog doesn't specify which program is using the folder

Submitted by migueld on May 13, 2009 to Annoyance

The problem is that it doesn't specify which program, so the user may (more...)

Specify the program or process where the folder is open. This allows the user to easily identify it to take proper action.

Better multi-monitor support for Taskbar

Submitted by pmbAustin on May 6, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When you have multiple monitors, currently you only get one taskbar on the primary monitor, and desktop is repilicated between them. You really have no control over where apps appear when you launch them, where dialogs appear, or any ability to utilize (more...)

It would be nice if you could have the option to have the taskbar on each monitor, and to be able to customize which items are pinned to which taskbar. Applications pinned to the task bar on a given monitor will launch on that given monitor. Each task (more...)

Shell Extension Organizer

Submitted by FearedBliss on May 18, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Removing old or broken shell extensions. You shouldn't have to dig inside the Registry Editor in order to remove old shell extensions.

Suggesting a simple to use Shell Extension Organizer where you would see a list of all the shell extensions on the computer and you would be able to Enable/Disable or Delete shell extensions. There should also be a feature where you could hide or un-hide (more...)

Black screen during hibernation? Why?

Submitted by adaz on April 9, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Is it by design? You don't know if the hibernation started at all or if it's finished or not: you have to look at the hdd led (if any!) because you don't venture to plug out the power cord.

Bring back the XP hibernation status bar with new design.

The default Start Menu "All Programs" requires a bit of organizing

Submitted by DavidTaraso on April 11, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

This is a very annoying aspect but would be very easy to fix. The default Start Menu "All Programs" list needs to be better organized.

Here are some examples:

- Some of the utilities found under the "System (more...)

I've pretty well already explained it within the Problem decription. Come on though Windows Dev Team, this is a short and painless task. It is easily doable even though we're nearing RC :)

Provide built-in OSD feedback for volume control (and other) buttons

Submitted by rq on March 21, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy

When using volume or brightness control and other similar buttons on keyboard, users usually see some feedback in the form of OSD overlay.

However, this feedback is something that right now each and every notebook/keyboard manufacturer (more...)

The solution is simple – provide something by default, perhaps make it customizable and/or extendable, and let us forget all those custom OSD programs that we're using right now. Of course, some options to disable OSD wouldn't hurt either.

Submitted by windows_spy on April 23, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy

Windows Defender color layout and UI isn't win7style.
win7style color layout is light blue, not dark blue.

Windows Defender update color layout and toolbar UI to win7style
like Windows Photo Viewer or Windows DVD Maker.

Windows 7 refuses to unmount storage devices, even when not in use

Submitted by sfsdfd on June 29, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

W7 often refuses to unmount storage devices with a "can't stop your device because a program is still using it" message - even, in many circumstances, when no actual program is using it. As a result, I'm forced to yank the hardware (more...)

Reconfigure the "device in use" logic of this widget to be more accurate.

Also, reconfigure the dialog to show the names of applications or services that are (ostensibly) still using the device.

IE 8 downloads every file to temporary folder even if the path is specified.

Submitted by jitendragarg on April 15, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

Every time I download something using IE8, the file is downloaded to temporary folder and then copied to specified location. If the size of file is larger than the space remaining on the system drive, IE8 still downloads the remaining file and keep it (more...)
