Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Do not steal keyclicks when asking user to reboot or postpone windows updates

Submitted by dsmtoday on January 22, 2010 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

I ran Windows Update today. It wanted to reboot my machine, so it popped up a box asking me if I wanted to reboot or postpone 10 minutes. I ignored it (meaning I didn't click postpone or anything else), instead clicked on Firefox, and continued (more...)

Do not ever steal focus by bringing this window to the foreground, which will end up stealing keyclicks intended for another application. Just make it activate a blinking icon in the toolbar or something, like it does when something needs process elevation.

Prevent focus stealing while in the act of typing

Submitted by AllUltima on January 23, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

It can be very annoying when something steals focus away from what you are doing. The worst case for me is typing, where, for example, another window opens and suddenly my keystrokes are being input into a new window.

Add a setting in Keyboard control panel called "Prevent lost focus when typing X quickly" with a slider.

I think that if this were implemented thoughtfully, (for example requiring a certain number of letters to be typed before (more...)

Teach Speech Recognition

Submitted by Nivekv on January 15, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

Speech Recognition is great, but when it doesn't do what you want, there is no way to correct it.

Allow users to say "Teach it" or something like that and then go into a wizard where you say the phrase that Speech Recognition misunderstood, like "Start Skype," and then show it what to do, double click Skype.exe OR run program: (more...)

Icon Stay

Submitted by SuperGenius on February 4, 2010 to Annoyance

It is extremely annoying to have rearrange icons after resolution changes.

Icon's should have a save/automatic restore feature for each resolution. Iconoid is a solution to a problem that shouldn't exist.

Remove bookmarks from the bookmark toolbar with out being asked are you sure? (IE)

Submitted by .Chris on January 22, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The bookmark bar, to me is like a short cut to the actual boookmarks side pannel/folder. There should be no reason why it always has to ask you "are you sure you want to move "_________________________" to the recycle bin"

Eirther remove it, or give us an option to "now show this message"

also, update the dialog. It does not follow aero guidelines.

Games Folder's Details Pane resizes oddly.

Submitted by veer01_42 on January 12, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

This prob is super hard to explain so bear with me on this one.

1. Open Games Folder from start menu.
2. Resize the WINDOW until it is the length of the screen, Height doesn't matter.
3. Set the DETAILS PANE to the center (more...)

Please stop with the non-resizable windows

Submitted by seoman on January 11, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

Not even the startmenu is resizable. Or the properties of the start menu.
But there are thousends of windows wich lack the abillity to resize so i can at least read the what's written on it.

IF a scrollbar appears a window should be sizeable.

I know every window has the oppertunity to enable or disable the sizebuttons (at design time).
But if a scrollbar appears it should be at least overuled by the user.

Make docking options configurable

Submitted by mortenbock on January 10, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

I really like the possibility to dock one window to the left, and another to the right. But it annoys me that I cannot decide where the "center" of the screen should be.

I would like for example to say that when docking a window (more...)

There could be a control panel section where these settings could be configured.

Slightly move an image, can't deselect with mouse click in empty space

Submitted by Nikox on February 3, 2010 to Annoyance, Usability

In paint if you slightly move a image, and want to deselect it you have to press ESCAPE before you can select/do other things.
I made a video to show what I mean.
Best I can describe it, you want to move part of a screen shot because you (more...)

Taskbar button bug

Submitted by .Chris on January 26, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Icons, Usability

I'll get right to the point:

1. If your taskbar is not already docked on the bottom or top of the screen, please do so now.
2. Now, extend the taskbar so its at least one additional hight.
3. Now move your icons around

Windows Media Player 12, Functionality, UI and file handling!

Submitted by veer01_42 on January 13, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

We need the "Default Programs" to work like it should.

Under set programs and computer defaults, when you go there to set, persay, Winamp or Zune as the default media player, firstly nothing happens to file type associations, (more...)

Well they could bring back Medial Player 11 but the performance loss would be intollerable. Sigh....

Submitted by .Chris on January 12, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When you use the math input panel you run in to these problems.

1. There is no minimize button.
2. It is always on top.
3. No real way to re-size it manually.
4. Command buttons are with in the title bar it self.

LAN file sharing login should be more permanent when "remember my credentials" is checked.

Submitted by AllUltima on January 12, 2010 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When you log into another machine on your LAN, even when you choose "remember my credentials", you must reenter those credentials later such as after a restart. I am not convinced the "remember my credentials" box does anything at (more...)

The user should instead be able to enter this info ONCE, check "remember my credentials" (this box already exists in the UI) and expect reasonable persistence.

It should be noted that this may seem to be a "security feature", (more...)
