Due to the stupidity of Long (that's me), all comments on the Windows 7 Taskforce after March has been lost.
As a result of this unfortunate event, a transition to a new backend (the one powering heresanidea.net) is being considered.

Gadget should lock in place; do not automatically 'snap' on restart

Submitted by koli on February 15, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

I like to have my gadgets flush with the sides of the screen. To move them like so, I need disable the 'snap to' feature by pressing Shift while moving the gadget. The problem is on restart; the gadgets will automatically 'snap' (more...)

solution 1: If the worry is that user will forget how to access the gadget menu to the right of the gadget, or god forbid learn how to right-click, the visual menu could be moved to the left if it would be moved off-screen.

Solution 2: (more...)

WMP12 default color suckitude

Submitted by 4BoltMain on March 6, 2010 to Aesthetics

The media player color can not be changed.

Allow the player to be customized to suit the users taste.

I have a rather large LCD monitor and I would prefer that my eyes were not blasted with light (as well as the room) when listening to music in low light conditions.

Hover effect NOT disappearing

Submitted by DBS on February 24, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

Recently, when hovering on top of an open or closed program in the taskbar, i see the hovering, but when the mouse moves away form the icon, AND the taskbar, the hover effect stays there as if the mouse was still on top of the icon.

I would like this to get fixed, i don't know if it does have something to do with the .dll's??..maybe i screwd up some of them by installing not-totally compatible software for windows 7.

Suggestion: Add a Pan and Zoom screen saver/slide show

Submitted by kiwiant on February 23, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The photo screen saver built into Windows 7 is very basic and lacks creativity. Add a few effects. It seems strange that the Windows Media Centre screen saver is a nice one but not accesible through the Screen Saver control panel applet.

Add effects to the slideshow and screen saver options including Pan & Zoom and the one that looks like polaroid photos are being laid on top of each other. The other nice item to add is to have a minimum star rating for photos to be included.

Have the taskbar resize like in a window (more smoothly).

Submitted by computerkid on March 13, 2010 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Currently when you resize the task bar, and keep your mouse held at a certain spot the windows is still in the same spot making it seem a little clunky in my opinion.

Make the windows move to fill up the space that is opened up when you resize the task bar (kinda like the way a window resizes). In my opinion, it could give the illusion of a faster system.

Construct whole new UI design, vector icon package and programming API etc for Windows 7

Submitted by formula_86 on February 17, 2010 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy, Usability

As nice and pretty though Windows 7 is with its scalable vector based icons, Aero UI,WPF apis etc etc, lets face it: its based on a vintage win32 API which was cool and awesome in 1995, but because its now 15 years since, its time for a change methinks.

Reconstruct Windows 7 in whole new ways as suggested in the title.

Make Windows Explorer have special effects similar to the file explorer in Mac OS X

Submitted by formula_86 on February 12, 2010 to Aesthetics, Usability

Its really boring to see all of my files arranged out in the same way as in all previous versions of Windows.

Why not add some special effects to explorer that looks like in the picture below? It would be perfect for multi-touch systems I reckon.
